I'm not sure how he did it, but I'd love to purchase a book that explains this kind of illusion and see the concept behind it.

I'd like some help.

What is 100 gone? Please explain.
Message: Posted by: nyphoebe (Aug 26, 2010 2:26am)
He set up a Guinness World Record, vanishing 100 random people on a stage fully examined by the Guinness World Record validater and, of course, the camera following. Therefore, the viewers as well would see that it looks legit (not really).

There is no video of it yet, as it was aired 2 hours ago.

I am thinking there will probably not be a book soon.
Message: Posted by: nyphoebe (Aug 26, 2010 2:11pm)
I'm not asking for THE explanation, just which classic illusion lies the concept behind it.

He's pushing the envelope...OFF THE TABLE!!
Message: Posted by: ku7uk3 (Aug 30, 2010 12:39pm)
I'm guessing that 99 of those people were inflatable dolls, and the 100th person just deflated them all behind a curtain while the one person in the audience just sat their reading a paper waiting for the trick to end.

It would be a better trick than his Scorpion one he did on the last episode anyway.

Inflatable dolls?

Here is a quick cliff note of CA's book on that effect: Buy Camera, Shoot Footage, Clip Footage, Miracle.

I have to say, Criss has a good TV show going for him. Yes, it's all a bit silly and not what I would do but, man, has he ever gotten a fan base. Much more than I have done...

Where is David Blaine when you really need him? :P

Haha. That's funny... David Blaine.

It's really hard to tell with Criss Angel what the illusion actually looks like, with so much post production editing. Just judging by what I saw, the technique applied is super old and can be found in many books. He's really doing nothing new, other than adding the subtlety of having the "spectator's" chained to the platform. My guess is that was Doug Malloy's handy work. :)

With a rep from Guinness book there, I'm sure it would be hard to "fake" things with their watchful eyes to confirm if it's a record or not. For all naysayers, then I guess any record by them is not truthful or relevant.

If you wanna see it, here it is...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4YGkrEpJjk

Doesn't look too difficult, just very costly though... Someone here wanna break the Record? It will cost you, though...

I think it's legit as far as "a record for performing an illusion" goes... It's not claiming it's a real vanish, just the performance of the illusion of the vanish...

This actually makes me even more turned off to Criss...

He doesn't need to pile up more and more of these...

Ok, we get it, you got a show, you can force their perspective, you're a tough guy, you're the MindFreak, you're the greatest, you got a Guinness World Record, you're this, you're that, yadayadayada...

Where's the connection with the audience? Like when you watch Copperfield, Blaine, Derren, and even Cyril perform bigger stuff for TV?

Then, "BELIEVE" bombs... How do you expect to get respect from people who are in YOUR ART? So, you only do well on TV? (I know, he doesn't care what us Magicians think... Which is where the problem lies, IMO...)

It's not jealousy on my part, it's just sad is what it really is... This is what Magic has come to nowadays...

I totally believe that any Magician can do this "100 gone" thing, even a newcomer... It really is just about having enough Money to set it up...

It's sad, I liked Criss once... :(

Well...

Alright, I have to ask. Was he stoned during that? Or, is that just part of the 'schtick'?

Neither, it seems he really is just like that.

Even in his Instructional Videos, he was like that as far as I remember.

Well, you know... He's cool or trying to be...

Anyway, he's the millionaire. What do I know?

This is one of the better things I've seen Criss do. It's a bigger version of Copperfield's 13.

Courtney is in no way a model, and just a random person. What I would had given to be the one lucky enough to be cuffed to her. ;) I don't think she works for Sears tools, though.
I was not paid to be here.

So, are those 100 people now tending to his garden and washing his sheets?

Never the less, why hate Criss Angel? So what if he's not as talented as us magicians. :) He is accomplishing what we magicians try to do with our magic. Amaze them, and try provide enjoyment for them. He does it with gimmicks and trick photography. He is doing no harm.

Most times folks at Guinness are contacted first by someone about wanting to break a record, or create a world record in an area that hasn't been done before. The folks at Guinness are paid their expenses, plus more for their time.

This is one of those things that has never been recorded by Guinness before, so Criss isn't actually breaking a world record, he's creating one. I think it's absolutely a black eye to the reputation of Guinness for adding magic tricks to their records, especially when it's not about the tricks but about the performance. Now, we can only cringe as we watch others now attempt to break the record just like the straitjacket fiasco.

What is the big deal about doing this? It is just a stage illusion.

Exactly! It's a trick, an illusion, and now it's a world record. (lol)

I liked the way he used the video camera inside the curtain to sell the time of the vanish.

It's a shame Jasper Maskelyne isn't around today. We could've had him re-do his little stunt with Alexandria or the Suez Canal to knock Criss out of the record book and provoke an endless stream of bigger and bigger vanishes until someone uses the Hadron Collider to make the planet itself vanish.

Hey I wonder what the other records in that category would be?
Most people Vanished in a lifetime: David Copperfield (In a week he makes about a hundred people disapear)
Didn't Jonathon Pendragon make like 25 showgirls disapear?
How many elephants were in the herd when Lance Burton made a herd of elephants disapear?
What if there were 100 people in the taj mahal when Franz Harary made it disapear?

Haha just joking
