(Close Window) Topic: Ryan Schlutz' Pivotal Peek Download
Message: Posted by: Cameron Francis (May 13, 2012 10:07am)
So my friend Ryan Schlutz has released a download of his Pivotal Peek which has to be one of the most deceptive peeks out there. It's very clean. Spectator glimpses a card and then without any other moves, you immediately hand them the deck and they shuffle it. The peek is super fast and will definitely fool the magi. It doesn't have the "tells" of normal peeks.

So the download is available from Trcky.com, a terrific new site which, I believe, is run by Rich Aviles. Looks like they have some other great downloads on there as well. Ryan's Pivotal Peek download is 10 minutes long and goes into great detail about how to accomplish the peek. It's not hard but it will take some practice. This is also the kind of thing that really benefits from video. Some moves can be taught in print (and he has explained this in print before) but seeing it makes it a lot easier to understand.

Definitely check it out if you want to add a new peek to your arsenal.

I agree Cameron. Ryan is a great friend of mine and he fooled me BADLY with this technique. It's so clean! In the right hands this move will add devastating power to your magic!

When Ryan first showed this to me it was not in the context of an effect. He told me in advance that he was going to peek at the card in the position of my choosing. He did it 3 times in a row and all I could guess was a flawless force or an exceptional display of statistical probability in guessing. It is the perfect peek.

For you book learners, this is also in his book Making The Cut.

Disclaimer: Ryan is my friend. That said, I recommend his work to enrich your magic and his friendship to enrich your soul.

Peace, Charlie

What the heck!

I just bought this on a whim, watched it, and...wait for it...will use this for the rest of my life. It's awesome!! And for $8?! I'm actually e-mailing Ryan right after this to tell him to bump it up to at least $15.

As a matter of fact, I'm going to Paypal him another $7 right now! Hold on a sec...

Done.

This is fantastic- Ryan, if I may, let me give you a quote in testimonial form:

"When you're fairly far along your professional career it's a rare moment to find something that you would have killed to have since the beginning. Ryan Schlutz's Pivotal Peek is exactly that. If you're ever going to use a deck of cards in your show, do yourself a favor and get this today so you won't be kicking yourself a few years down the road."

Lol, my qualifications at the end sound so pretentious, lol, but maybe they'll help a bit. Not that this needs it. Great job Ryan!

Wow Jamie!!! Thank you for such a glowing review. I woke up a little tired this morning but I am awake now!

The peek is the book but I agree that is a move that doesn't read well. It is one of those you have to see it to understand it. That is why I did the download and from the feedback I am recieving I am happy I did.

Thank you all!

I was going to mention the same thing. The video really helps to see the way the pivot should look, but the book is a steal having this technique as well as Sensational Perception (which I've only watched the video). Best wishes on this project Ryan.

Thanks Sean..

Has anyone staring using the peek yet?

Can anyone say if this works for left handers?! Given the position of the indexes, some peeks are only possible if performed by a.right hander!
Message: Posted by: RSchlutz (Jun 4, 2012 3:17pm)
Well I attempted to do it left handed just now it worked fine. Just needed to adjust the handling a little bit. I know Marshall with H&R is lefty and he said he uses it. So he may be able to share how successful it has been for him

Trying left handed works since the method that prevents lefties from other peeks is a non issue with this one given the different method.

Ryan.

I would love to say this is something I have been using on my own for years but I would be lying.

This is a wonderful tool for every performer.

Ryan, is it a prerequisite to kiss one's own bicep in order to perform your sleights? ;)
Message: Posted by: Angel1998 (Jun 8, 2012 12:34pm)
I start to use this peek now :)
Message: Posted by: RSchlutz (Jun 8, 2012 3:12pm)
Riff Raff-- the bicep kiss is more of an advance technique.

Angel- thanks for letting me know Also used in conjunction with the peek control method, it can be lethal.

I've been working on this for that last month. It doesn't take that long to get down and you can actually do it within minutes of learning it, but I really wanted to get it smooth and fast and use it before posting again.

It's fantastic. What helps learning it quickly is they do an over the shoulder session and you see exactly what Ryan does/sees.

If they had charged $20, it would have been a bargain because you'll use it for the rest of your life.

HIGHLY recommended!

Rich is a good friend of mine and fooled me badly with it. I can't recommend this highly enough.
Its really deceptive and really easy. You can't go wrong.

I did ... and I love it !

This is my go-to technique for having a card selected. It's so fair and you immediately know the card so you can let the spectator shuffle if you like (and even control it after the shuffle). It's perfect.

Thanks guys! Feels so good to know it is being used by you all.

Rich touch on but the moves also allows you to control the card after the peek. You can set the deck down squared up and pick it back up and control the where you need it.

We've had a lot of purchases of this great technique so I'm wondering... what are you guys using it for?

Did you drop it into your regular set, or maybe it has sparked something entirely new for you?

Rich, I use it for a card revelation ( mentalism sort of thing ).

This is THE peek to learn and use ( IMHO ).
