It was an adaptation of the second book in the series. Disney was hoping to make a movie franchise out of them. But since the movie more or less bombed that plan was put on the back burner. I still think they own the rights to all but the first book. I personally enjoyed the film and like that they played up the dark aspects. I especially liked the design work on the wheelers. I had a friend who worked on some of the Claymation effects and I got to tour the studio as they were wrapping up the final scenes. Coincidentally they were also working on the first California Raisin commercial at the time so I got to see the set those were being filmed on as well. My favorite reboot at the moment is Rise of the Planet of the Apes. I thought they did a great job on the story and set up the next movie very well.
