Think about it in theatrical sense: Wouldn't you as a spectator would feel bought if you saw a performer claiming that what he just did wasn't real? If an actor on a stage told you that he wasn't really abused as a child, that he just played the part? If I feel emotionally connected with the guy and he told me that, I would be mad.
