I've done this in my restaurant magic.
People start to talk about the date picked And you get to spout the similarities of the cards to the calendar. Which is interesting patter. Only complaint I have is the dairies are way to big and weigh down my inside breast pockets. If the diaries were smaller and lighter life would be easier. I their is a smaller version Of Chronologue available I would like to take a look at it. Trick is outstanding but diaries are to big. At least the ones sold by George Robertson Viking (CW)

Neznarf, you can buy small, pocket calendars for this effect. The calendar I have is similar to the free checkbook covers you get from your bank. I believe I got it from Staples.

Another vote for the DVD; a printed diary entry looks odd (the solution is to go over all the entries with a pen...but then, you might as well start with your own diary!)
Plus the 'error' in the printed diary makes it just a little bit harder to perform. And - there are other very very strong routines on the DVD. And you get to see Bob perform. |

Bob Cassidy's version is worth the price of the DVD alone, not to mention the rest of the material you'll find. Caution: It's easy to make a mistake, when making your own diary, especially as you get near the end when writing and concentration start to lag. After ruining one diary, I wrote the f***e c***s lightly in pencil first.

How much pocket space does it use ? ... is it self contained (only one calendar) or does it use more than one ? Please PM me, I really want to know if it is for me or not.
For strolling magic, where pocket space is so important, this is a very important detail. I didn't find it anywhere by the way, I'll order the Cassidy's DVD to learn it if I decide to move forward. Tks Jack |

I have used Chronologue for so many years now. It is absolutely brilliant! The ultimate WORKER. I wouldn't consider any other diary trick at all.
I do it EXACTLY as you are supposed to do it but I don't have ANY of the problems mentioned on this thread nor do I use anything else like a pack of cards or a wallet. Keep It Simple! I don't ask if the date is even or odd - to me that SCREAMS that you are using two diaries. I simply say "tell us all, in a loud voice, what is the date you merely thought of". They tell us and I cleanly remove the diary from the relevant top inner jacket pocket. I laugh, open my jacket and say "I only have one diary, not 52". I say "you'll see I've written the names of cards on each day, very badly I'm afraid - writing was always a challenge!" When they call out the card, I usually "mishear" it which convinces of the spontaneity. I then say "have you noticed anything else?" When they say "no", I say "look, I'll show you" which motivates me taking the diary back from them. When I get out the relevant envelope, I place it on the diary and when I reveal the card, I place that on the envelope. This avoids any possibly of a "flash". While everyone is reacting (you always great a massive reaction, I put the card back into the envelope and the envelope back into the diary the same way. A WONDERFUL effect. I never leave home without.

To be honest, Jack, the pocket space is very minimal as long as you are wearing a jacket. Two slim diaries in your inner pocket - one on each side. Full stop. Any other method compromises the effect, IMHO.

I was just curious about the "cut the props in half" "even more impossible" and "double climax" that Peter is talking about. Anyway, for the moment I'm just curious about it (Peter's method). If it is streamlined and as strong /stronger than the the original, than ... why not ? Peace Jack |

James Fortune, thanks for the review. Are you talking about Viking's version of Chronologue ? Many people here refer to Cassidy's Mental Miracle DVD, so it's very confusing. I'm interested in the CW/Viking version, but I need to know what are the differences with Cassidy's. I've read that the new version of Chronologue by Viking has interesting, unique features. I'm just hoping I won't need two diaries.

Jack, I am a personal friend of Peter's and he is not well at the moment which is probably why you are not getting any response.

From the Viking website:
BONUS! We are now including three great additional routines by two working professionals and one enthusiastic practitioner. You get an extremely great effect and handling by Richard Osterlind and another by Richard Gerlitz and a variation that you can make up by Andy Martin. All this plus Cassidy’s original instructions give you a powerful impromptu killer effect. NEW EDITION: You will be able to perform all the above, plus you can now divine a chosen date and card selection in a new and novel way due to the new printing method employed in this updated version of Chronologue. Simply have the spectator secretly look at a page and you instantly know the date and card, etc. We have also included a page with zodiac signs to help in cold readings; in addition, we have added a birthstone page.
Warmest regards

Sound like great trick and I planned to buy it but actually I feel that the Mystery Calendar is practically the same and use only one single pocket calendar and included also many other effects and is 4 times cheaper... Is here somebody who have both and can share his opinion?

That doesn't look like a pocket calendar. Chronologue looks like a day/date book, in which you filled with playing card names. Writing in a day/date book is not unusual, even with the writing being playing card names. The calendar is in no way analogous to Chronologue, two different effects. |

Thanks Desmond for your response. Yes, I agree with the noted above point of view and in the past I also used a diary (day/date book) for this effect (there are several variations of this "trick" on the market) but actually I found that this is not necessary because even with a single pocket calendar I've got the same reactions. And it is easy to carry it in my wallet everywhere which giving me a free pocket space for other magic props.
When you explain to the spectator that the days of the year and the playing cards are connected in very interesting way - for example the 52 cards of the deck are compared to the 52 weeks in the year, the 4 card suits are compared to the 4 seasons, the red and black colors of the cards are like the day and night etc. Now is very logical to explain him that everyone has a lucky playing Birthday card depends of his date of birth and we can find his own using a special pocket calendar. So we show him a calendar with different cards corresponding to the different dates and to tell him that with this pocket calendar we can make interesting little experiment about his character and destiny. And the demonstration begins... So to say "take this diary and check what card is written on the date which you select" is almost equally for the spectator with "take this calendar and check what is the card corresponding to the date of your birth (or your selected date)". You know that not the prop make the magic, but the presentation. So if the only difference between both effects is that the diary is with hand writen card names instead of card indexes/pictures on the pocket calendar (and the Chronologue is actually 3-4 times more expensive) for now I will save the money and not purchase it. And by the way with the Mystery Calendar we can make also several more effects...

I've performed a Calendar Trick in restaurants for years, so I know it's a strong trick, but it is the trick that gets the reaction, not if the calendar is hand-written. Now I use a printed calendar that has card names "hand-written" and it is so much clearer and easier for the audience to see. With a home-made hand-written version, only the person assisting me could clearly see the calendar, but with my printed version, everyone can see it immediately. I've taken a side by side shot of a hand-written calendar and a printed hand-written calendar. You can see the image here: http://bobmillerinc-com.3dcartstores.com......b_4.html I think clearer is better.
