Hello and thank you for looking at this post.
I am thinking about opening a small shop in Southern California. I would like to hear from other shop owners or managers. What are your most common items sold? I figure I will be stocking the shop with cards, coins, brass, & boxes, as well as cups & balls, ropes, and then build up an inventory over time. But what do you see going out your door on a normal basis? Especially from your new clients and what would you tend to set them up with? Please Only PM me on this subject. I would like to get a unbiased survey and seeing somone elses post may sway you. Thank you BB

Let me first ask, what type of location do you have in mind for your store?
This will determine your customers and what you will want to sell them. The secret to selling magic is how do you make a profit? The tricks you sell are important but can you mark up what you are wanting to sell and still make enough profit? For example, you can sell thousands of trick card decks and coins. But will you mark them up enough and sell to those customers and still make money? Your overhead can kill you if you are not thinking about this. Describe for me your customers. What kind of traffic are you expecting everyday in your store? You are asking the right question, I am only trying to get you to approach it another way. Think of it this way, are you just selling magic tricks or are you selling a concept or a system that will make you money? I can offer my top selling tricks. Before I do, I need to know who you are selling to. At one time I owned five magic shops, this is not an easy business to make money in. You can do it and it can be fun, but you have to work at it and figure out your strategy. Steve Hart Cape Canaveral, FL USA
