The sheet metal I found at my local Home Depot was a little bit thick, but not that bad. It works just fine. If you're concerned about thickness, just peal out a few layers of the cardboard in your paper pad. Hope this helps...

Many of K&S metals can be gotten through Mcmaster Carr. I am guessing that you need something 28 gauge or less.

You can also go to any Heating and Air conditioning shop that makes their own duct work and they will be able to supply you with the perfect piece.

Got to McMaster.com, it's a website that specializes in supply of mostly all materials needed to build just about anything. Cheap prices and fast delivery. HUGE selection of materials and sizes.

You can also use flashing from Home Depot or Lowes and it only cost's a few bucks, also many alluminium soda cans would work, and they are free.

Slightly off topic but...
I LOVE telling people I'm buying things to build magic tricks. I say it proudly with a big grin and a wiggle of the eyebrows! Frankly, you can tell people you poop purple and if you say it with enough good humor they will respond positively! Also, let me leave you with this thought... only kids want to be adults. Truly grown adults would give anything to be able to be kids again. And they love someone who isn't afraid to admit that and actually manages to even partially do it!

Also slightly off topic - I'm finishing up my version of Cardiographic, based on Martin Lewis' excellent DVD.
Any problems getting through airport security screening? I used an 8 x 10 metal plate in an 8 1/2 x 11 sketchpad. I imagine screeners asking me to explain a sketchpad with a metal plate in it that they can't see - then confiscating it. Or am I too much of a worry wart?
