Chops is basically just throwing the club under the arm. The previous club needs to be caught a little earlier than normal to allow for the time your carrying it. Also a slightly higher throw than normal for your under the arm throw will make it easier. You could learn it with balls first but it looks rubbish and it isn't that hard a trick in clubs.

Thanks Nigel!! what about stance it seems that every source on this trick the juggler seems to take on a widened stance ( feet further apart knees bent ) is this nessesary or just for show ? although to learn this should I break it down to one club then two and so on ?

PS: great list of skills on the previous thread you obviously work hard at your craft

For me stance isn't really a factor. I tried it just now with various stances and it made no difference. However the most natural feeling stance was with feet about the same width apart as shoulders.

To learn the trick I would concentrate first on my under the arm throw from one side and then the other. I would then concentrate on taking the club earlier to get the chopping motion and finally I would exagerate the under arm throw to allow greater exageration of the chop. After this I would work on getting a suitable facial expression.

If you can already do the 'eating the apple' trick with balls you will have no problems with early catching.

Nigel

I've been juggling 17 years and I get bored with doing the same thing all the time so I try to learn a new skill every year. Some of these skills are combinations of other skills such as juggling and balancing. Variety is the key to getting lots of work I've found. (But I'm not a specialist at anything so I have to do loads of stuff)

You may want to go to a good siteswap site and watch the chops pattern for a while, sometimes that helps me!

I learned 3 club chops first with double spins, then went on to learn them with single spins. The double spin gave me just a little extra time to execute the chop...
