Hi Everybody,
I am looking for some advice here. A fellow I have known most of my life passed away recently, and his widow, who was very close to my mother gave me two books that he had owned. The first is "Miricle Mongers and their Methods - a complete expose" by Houdini. The book is dated 1920 The second is "Houdini" by Kellock dated 1928. I don't know that I want to sell them, but I would be curious as to the value of the books. More importantly, they are old and the pages are showing thier age, can anyone tell me the best way to store these books to preserve them. If it is possible at all? Thanks, Cliff

I don't know about pricing.
But to help slow down their deteriation (aging) go to your local hobby shop and there should be some items to buy; 1. a spray, I forget the name, that will keep the pages. 2. get some bags or boxs, that are acid free. see if you can find an antique dealer near, that can help with that. -i will see if I can look up anything on the books them selves. |

$75.00 for Miracle Mongers
$25.00 for the Kellock book. I would skip trying to perserve them. Meaning, don't get them dipped, etc. to stop the deterioration. They are nice books, but enough exist to meet demand.

If you want to preserve them, you may want to store them in a dark photo album case. The kind that is like a cardboard box that slides together. This will keep out the sunlight which will slowly fade and destroy the paper. It sounds like there may be many other copies available so I'm not sure if you have a collector's item there or not. Only you can decide if you should preserve these books. Two factors that would help me decide is if the are first editions and then the sentimental value.
Good luck and let us know what you decide. |
