What's your favorite Colombini book? (I have some of his packet tricks and looking to get a book or two) Thanks for your input.

His books: The Close up Magic of Aldo Colombini and Impromptu Card Magic are my personal favorites!

Close Up is long out of print, unfortunately, and seldom comes up for auction or sale. I once asked him if it would ever be reprinted, and he thought probably not...I think L&L owns the reprint rights. It's a good one if you can find it.

"The Close-Up Magic of Aldo Colombini" really is quite good. I was surprised that it didn't fetch a higher price the last two times I saw it up for auction. You don't hear it referenced very often so maybe people just don't realize how good it really is. If you find it I would strongly recommend getting it.

In addition to the above-mentioned book, Hades Publications has two excellent books of Aldo's work, "Impact" and "React." Aldo self-published a large hardcover book of card magic called "What's Up Deck" that is outstanding. He has some smaller books that are also very good, like "On the Ropes" and Direct Hits", the latter being all EXCELLENT card work. The old Lewis Ganson Teach-In series from Supreme has two booklets of Aldo's work, one on his FISM Award-winning Cups & Balls, and another on his linking ring routine. He's got a couple of large softcover books on impromptu card magic, "Impromptu" and "Impromt2." I'm pleased and honored to say that he saw fit to record one of my routines in the 2nd volume. He has many other booklets, large and small.
About 10 years ago, Aldo gave me his permission, if I wanted to, to lecture on "the magic of Aldo Colombini." I don't do that, because he does it so much better than I ever could! Aldo was my first mentor in magic, and at one time, I had a copy of every item of his that was avaialable (He is so prolific, I have been unable to keep up over the 5-7 years!). If I were going to get just one of his books, I'd probably choose React from Hades. It has great routines with all kinds of stuff. If I were going for just cards, I'd have to choose What's Up Deck. I believe they are both still available.

Thanks for the tips, Scott. I checked Aldo's site and not only did I find copies of Impact and React, and not only is EVERYTHING on the site on sale for $10, but I also found the reason behind the end of his column in the Linking Ring (almost makes me want to cancel my subscription!!), and learned that he will continue the column on-line. So, again... thanks!

FC,
It has to do with the second to last article he published. Check out his site and go to the link for "As Always Aldo." Interesting... |

Nope. He had a few, but now they're gone (along with "Impact" and several other items).

"What's Up Deck" is my favorite Aldo book followed by "Direct Hits".

One of those times that I wish I would "reacted" when I saw the book. Didn't jump on it, and now it is gone. Dang it.

It is probably not generally known that several years ago I purchased pretty much all of Aldo Colombini's copyrights. I therefore do have all of his ebooks and DVDs available as downloads on Lybrary.com, including most of the works mentioned on this thread:

I see, so since you own the rights, nobody else can reprint them?

Well, if somebody is interested they could make me an offer to license the contents for re-printing. They are available as ebooks. From the demand I see with other titles I offer in both print and digital form there is little reason to reprint. Most folks these days want the digital form for whatever reason. But circumstances can change. It is a business after all. I will go where I see the demand goes.
