Hi Jeff,

What do you prefer for a microphone, a LAV clip-on mic or a hand-held? Why?

Also, you've endorsed the Virtual Soundman/iCue in the magazine ads...can you tell us how that has added to your act? Do you use it in every show? How do you coordinate sound with your clients when you're flying in for a one-nighter? (I'm finding this tough to do for smaller events, although I'm sure you perform at larger functions that already have production elements in place for speakers etc.) Any tips on what to put in a rider?

Thanks,

Matt Roberts

I prefer a hand-held wirewire because of the way I work. There are times I don't want the audience to hear what I'm saying to someone. So, if I'm using a hand-held - as oppose to a body mic that is clipped to my jacket - I can pull the mic away from my mouth easily.

Yes, I use and endorse the Virtual Soundman / iCue. In fact, I just used it again last night for a private show here in Las Vegas at the Wynn Casino. There were only 20 people in attendance but I still wanted the music effect. Music, if used correctly, can make a good show great. I have a rider in my contract which explains what I need for my sound requirements. . . which is just AC power and to be able to "patch in" to their PA system. I bring everything in one small box. The iCue, iPod and all cords and cables fix in a small case which I carry on with my props and costume. . . all which fit in a "rollerboard" type of case and I'm able to carry on. I even have enough room for a couple of days of fresh clothes!!!!

Yes, some places are not able to accomodate my iCue system. . .but very few. But, I can still do my same show. . . music or not. I just prefer music if at all possible.
