Dead Reckoning isn't your typical "spell to a selection" routine. You DO spell to the selection, but that's not the crux of the trick. The crux of the trick is you read their friggin' mind. That you also found their card is secondary to the magic. How is it suitable for TTTCBE? (Other than methodologically, obviously.) |

I completely agree. Although to be honest I haven't performed Aragon's spelling effect.
As for TTTCBE, much like Dead Reckoning if framed correctly spelling can be used to indicate a thought of card. What's really fun is to lead to the card with an outrageous story ala Sam The Bellhop and end with a card spell. Tell the impromptu story and stop shy of the target. Use flash spell to arrive at the card. |

You're starting at a disadvantage, and you're relegating yourself to potential misfires, like spelling to a card. |

I used to think that too. It's all in how you present your intention.
I have done TTTCBE with some of the most circuitous logic and have been astounded by the results. |

However, I seem to recall Simon's Flash Speller being a variation of Marlo's mnemonic and not an actual routine. I sold that book a long time ago but I'll have to crack open a copy when I get a chance and check out this slayer. I do recall his variation on Marlo's system being excellent. |

If you are telling the truth, and being genuine, then why are you equating it to Hokey, Hot Rod, Sponge Bunnies, and putting down Aronson?.
Marlo's Flash Speller is excellent and Aronson's Variations allows for veritable miracles. The more you post here, the more you betray your lack of knowledge/experience. Which would be ok if you weren't constantly, contrarily inflating your own ego. It is disgraceful. |

So that's what I argued: that doesn't necessarily matter. But clearly this is a matter of taste. I think spelling tricks, by and large, are lame. You don't. That doesn't indicate lack of experience on either of our parts. I actually use Flash Speller, by the way. But not in a spelling routine Thanks for reminding me of Aronson's variation! |

There are important things to be learned from this book beyond tricks, IMO.

Charles Jordan was the first (to my knowledge) to introduce the idea of the inefficiency of the riffle Shuffle, and o** w** faces.

"The Premo". It's a fantastic effect which has recently been updated by modern authors.
The write-up in the Karl Fulves book does not do it justice though, as it leaves out some of Jordan's best ideas. You're better off getting a copy of "Thirty Card Mysteries" to fully appreciate Jordan's thinking. |

I have red and re-red this book many times, but I could never find not even one "usable" thing. It seems to me that the book is very rich on concepts and ideas, but they still need development to become fully workable pieces. I believe talented people could take many, many ideas from this book and turn them into amazing things. Unfortunately I am not one of those 😀
I believe that to really appreciate this book you need to know a lot about magic.

Talented people like Hideo Kato, Karl Fulves, Tamariz, etc they can read this book and go "amazing! Incredible! A genius!". Most magicians go "uh?".
Yesterday the Vice President of US was here and the city was almost literally closed. I was stuck in traffic for about an hour more or less. I was reading the Liu Cheng issue of Magic Mag. It said that Liu learned japanese ONLY so he could speak with Mr. Kato. So go figure.
