Some kind of spring mechanism?
How to stop it leaking? (I know you can buy them but I haven't seen them for sale in the UK)

Wouldn't you just use a hollow tube, sealed on one end, to hold the slush powder?
Things are more like they are today than they've ever been before...

If it's open one end, surely the audience will see?
I feel you need it sealed both ends, but then be able to unseal it covertly while it's over the liquid.

What about,
if the wand is hollow and there's opening on the side of the wand. Just cover the hole with your thumb while holding the wand. After the magic manuvers with the wand, hold the cup with your fingers and thumb grip (hold the wand base of your thumb and index finger) the wand. That way you can take a pause and let the slush powder pour out from the wand. Just my 2 euros. |

Arepsi - I think you might have it. I had been thinking that you needed to put the powder in at the same time as making the magical gestures. But of course you can make the gestures first and load the powder on the offbeat.

I think this is pretty good idea... Maybe I can make the wand some day and perform some kind slush routine.

Why not just use a straw. You can buy the kind that have large openings. If you perform the 3 cup routine, you can place the slush powder inside the straw and lay it on the table along with the cups. Show the cups to be empty.
Use the straw as a wand. Place the straw inside the first cup and give the cup a tap. The powder will fall inside. Place the straw inside each of the other cups and give them a tap. Now you are ready for the water. |

Dissolvo paper and a bit of rubber cement on the end.

Make the white tipp from a slightly larger piece of tubing, so you can place one ply from a tissue over the end and then push the white larger ring over it to secure it neatly and relliably, kinda like a "drumhead production tube"

I invented and manufactured the slush wand back in 1998. I hand made the first 1000 then turned production over to Abbott's. If you can't find one let me know I may have a few. It uses a loop and a plug gimmick that keeps the powder inside until your ready to unload.
Not sure who is carrying it anymore but it retailed for just $10.00 back in the day. Dennis |

Mr Dennis,
I have one of these wands and I have used it many times. I remember being quite inexpensive and I bought mine about 18 years ago at wrinklers house of magic. |

I would willingly have paid $10 if I'd seen them in the UK for anything like that price, but I eventually made one using arepsi's idea. It works OK but you have to tap away a few times to get all the powder out and the angles aren't brilliant so I haven't used it yet for a real performance

Years ago, I saw a magic book that told how to make the "Wizard's Omelette". For the life of me, I cannot remember the name of the book.
The book talks of a wizard stirring his staff in a heated, yet empty pan. Suddenly, eggs appear in the pan and start to cook. As memory serves, two or more eggs were loaded into a drilled out section in the bottom of the staff, then stoppered with bees wax. Something such as a plug of water dissolve-able paper could keep in the slush powder until the end of the wand is submerged. If formed into a party snap shape, the smooth, bulbous end should create a tight enough seal until exposed to water. |
