I'm wondering if anyone has plans for an old fashioned pitchman's case. I'm referring to one of those old suitcase arrangements with folding legs a pitchman would set up on a sidewalk to sell whatever he was pitching, back in the 40s and 50s. I have tried to locate a source to buy one, but have had no luck, so now Im trying to locate plans for building one.
Woke up.

I loved the case that was used in "Bed knobs and Broomsticks" by Dave Tomlinson. I have worked my @ss off trying to reverse engineer that case. I am pretty sure I have it more or less down, but what to make it out of. Plywood is too heavy and bulky. Basswood is just right in size and weight, but has no strength. I think his had a metal frame and cardboard sides. I wish you well, those cases are really cool.

Yeah, that was a nice case, huh? Ed Wynn had a similar rig in the Twilight Zone episode (that inspired the prototype I built. Baltic Birch case, folding card table leg hardware from Rockler; way too heavy. Like most prototypes in my shop, it was round-filed. |

Excellent for table for stage and for busking..
Cool looking table.. Currently we are also working on a manipulator table. I wonder whats the demand for the manipulator table and whats the factor that most manipulator looks for in a table. The design we got is excellent and fantsastic but not only the design must be great and persentable. Function is another piority that we are looking at.. Anyone have any clue or idea that a manipulator looks for when he/she is looking for a manipulator table.. Hope to brainstorm more idea in here..more brains is better than one brain. LOL Best, Aaron

The leg that you are talking about was the one used on Al Flosso's table. Had the honor of examining one of the leggs from his actual table. each leg is t pcs the longer will fold up into the base of the case. the shorter will fold up next to the longer one. they stay together with a rod (spring loaded)that runs thru the longer into the shorter.the weight of the caseholds the rod so that it acts as a pin to keep the two pieces aligned. lifting the caseallows the spring loaded rod to retract into the long leg section(about 1/2")movement. then the legs will automacilly retract up into the case and you just walk away. note that these lega must be set up ahead of time. you cant push a button to lock then reverse the process. this is only for retraction.

I remember Joe Zering the Magician at Chicagos Marshall Fields had one that the leg were spring loaded and had casterson the bottom. The legs would shoot down and lock in place, if I remember correctly

In the Ade Duval silk act book there are photos of his table where legs pop down via springs with description. Symphony of Silks may have been the name.
