Hi,
Is there any online shop which provides Michael Ammar's cups and balls video as downloads. I can see many online shops selling the DVD's but no downloads. I also have a concern no sellers provide download options of master pieces like the one I mentioned above or any Easy to learn Card/thread/Money series(MA) or Encyclopedia series(darly's for example) or any other multi-volume series suitable for a amateur. Not sure of the reason though. This can help international customers a lot. Penguin does have many good DVD downloads but its mostly individual tricks/routines which doesn't appeal to a beginner wanting to start from the basic moves/sleights and then develop on routines. Any comments/advice ???? Regards Bhayankaran |

Bhayankaran,
I reckon the biggest concern with making DVDs downloadable (though as an international customer myself, I know how convenient it is) would be that they can be re-distributed easily. However, all is not lost, check out L & L Publishing's website. They have a Video On Demand feature (provided by Grapeflix) that allows you to watch entire DVDs on your computer. http://www.grapeflix.com/Category/frmThe......erID=311 That's their Grapeflix theater page and the selection of the online titles they offer. Not ALL their titles are there, but at least it's something. Hope this helps somewhat. Stay safe, Logan

I don't want you to misinterpret what I'm about to post, but I have to say this.
Once a video is on the internet as a download, it gets passed around like yesterday's newspaper. There are many countries that are not signatories to the Bern Accord, which is the international copyright agreement. One of these countries is India. So, if a DVD becomes available on the internet, suddenly it will appear in everyone's computer, and its value is lost. Most of my customers in India are very honest and would not think of making copies of this material or passing the files to another magician, but there are many places in which it is a common practice. In the US, alone, people who publish books, manuscripts and DVD's lose 50% of their profits to illegal copyists. I have actually been in line at places with photocopiers and have seen people who were blatantly copying material of which I am a part owner. I have stopped them. The cost to send the DVD's to India is less than $10.00 by Global Priority Mail. The cost of the pair of DVD's $65.00. Postage is another $10.00 or so. Or if you can find a magic dealer who will give you a break on the price, you may be able to beat that. You can also buy them individually. But you aren't going to find any of the real work on cups and balls as a downloadable video. Not anymore.

Yes what I guessed was right. The torrent guys had made the life of people like me tough. Bill, I agree the shipping charges can be affordable. but with customs and stuffs like that I feel a liitle sad. I have sent a PM to you on cupsandballs museum page. Hope you can help me with that,
Logan, the grapeflix downloads are world's greatest magic series and they are good for an reasonabaly experienced magician. But for peeople like me wanting to learn from basics, they are advanced I believe.however I will consider buying them when I have my hands on and off on real stuff. Magestic12....Buying the DVD's on my way I really wonder if there is any person in the Café (I am sure there are many) who owns/works for an online shop and can really put a word on this. Any way thanks for all your replies. bhayankaran |

All you have to do to get the password is to send me an e-mail, as I have instructed.
BTW, there should be no duty on DVD's as they are usually sent as educational material.

It is very easy to rip a DVD into a downloadable video file. That means the DVD format itself is no protection to prevent torrents and other file sharing websites to illegally distribute this content. With powerful digitization technology no format today including books, film, videos, etc. provides any inherent protection. What needs to change is the attitude of people.
However, my experience is that the vast majority of magicians are honest and are willing to pay a fair price. They would not consider committing a crime. But there are always some who think they are smarter. Eventually the law will catch up with them. Additionally streaming video can be setup such that one cannot easily save the video to a file. Of course, there are ways around that, too, but a streaming video is from a security point of view just as good as a DVD. Publishers will eventually realize that and then you will see more streaming video offerings. At the Lybrary we have just recently added streaming video. These are typically not feature length videos, but some are quite long. If you are interested go to the video section: http://www.lybrary.com/magic-video-c-21_170.html Same goes for audio. We offer our audio content both for download and directly streamed. And if everything goes according to plan you will see a lot more videos streaming down the Lybrary path

On another point, with all the protection and license requirements, I've bought a few downloads that can only be played on one computer. I'm not set up or find it
enjoyable to study or try to learn magic locked behind a computer. So, unless it's something I'm very interested in I won't buy it. |

Tom, can you say what and where you bought your 'one computer' download products?

Thanks Chris for your view on this.
I myself have purchased ebooks from lybrary. Looking forward for more full feature videos at Lybrary. Agree with you that even DVD videos are not safer. When there are torrents for operating systems like XP and Vista how can somebody protect just a video file. And I hope someday a technology emerges so that all these piracy ceases. |

Bill,I have to question that statistic of 50%. That's assuming that each copy made and distributed is a lost sale. It's more likely that it was downloaded because it was free. It's my belief that the people in the torrents crowd tend to be young guys who were never taught that downloading copyrighted products off the internet is thievery. They take it because they can, and they place very little value on it. These guys are not going to go out and buy something if they can get it for free. If they want it they ask on a forum and someone always seems to come up with the file. If tomorrow they invent a copy proof DVD, these guys still won't buy much, they'll just move on to movies, songs, or what ever else they can get at no charge. |

Chris,
That One Computer technology is called Digital Rights Management <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_rights_management> and it has many disadvantages, including the lack of interoperability (only works with specific software on a specific operating system). As far as I (computer science student) are concerned, it is a bad idea. |
