Mothers' Day is a great time for me to thank my Magic Mom. That was the lady who taught me my first rising card trick. She made my gimmick with a rubber band and a desk stapler.

Thanks Mom!

My mom amazed my sister and me with the scarf through the neck. I've never looked back!

My mother didn't know any magic, but when she saw my eyes light up after watching a magician, she had the good sense to take me to the library to get my first magic book. We then went and bought a deck of cards and she sat down and patiently taught me to shuffle them. And a passion was born. Thanks Mom!

Lucy has been a good influence in getting moms interested in magic.

Mine, finally after much begging and pleading on my part, gave in and bought a 6 pack of Dr. Pepper and a package of Neuhauf franks so I could get the promo magic wand and buddah paper trick from Mark Wilson and Nani who were performing in the grocery store's parking lot that day. My first magic props. I strongly suspect she had something to do with Santa bringing me a Mark Wilson TV magic kit too.

I know this sounds morbid, but my Mom's death had everything to do with my introduction to magic at 13. Since she had sole custody of me, the State Of California made me a ward of the state, and I spent 6 months at the juvenile section of The Santa Clara County Jail.

It is there, I checked out a library book on magic. So yes, I have my Mom to thank, but I'd rather she'd have introduced me to magic in another way!

From California to Maine! You have gone far in life!

At my age 13 my mom signed for my first long term professional entertainment contract. It kept me working for five great years. It was kept a secret from Dad for over 50 years. He died at age 88, never knowing what she had done for me.

That is so bittersweet.

I'm sorry for your Mom's early passing in your life my friend.
