I was going through my boxes of magic and I came across the magician's insurance policy I was just wondering if anyone still uses this in there routine.

Me too! Especially Michael Ammar's SCAM version with a candy kiss. This is a great routine! I believe David Williamson performed the original version on national television and on stage. I feel many magicians dismiss this classic.

David Maleck has a terrific routine, and high quality, virtually indestructible version of this. Not sure if it's still available, but certainly worth the search.

Bill,
I don't think I have ever heard of this routine where can I find more information on this or can you pM me on this routine. I have a kids show Saturday and I was thinking about blowing the dust off of it and trying to work it in my show.

I believe someone (can't remember who / when exactly) performed it about 12 or 15 years ago on a TV Magic Special. And it went over!

Isn't Insurance Policy a card trick? Or am I thinking of something else...I have an Ammar version.
Was just curious why it was posted in this particular forum...unless there's another version I'm unaware of.

Paul Gordon's work on the insurance policy turns it into a killer, easy to do magic routine. He calls his version "Magician's Insurance 'Card Under Shoe' Policy".
In Paul's routine the spectator takes a card and the magician tries to find it, and fails! After some by play the magician takes out an insurance policy that guards against this type of problem. This is the standard routine up to this point. From here we go a different trail! The policy is turned over to reveal all 52 cards; it has to be one of these!? This soft joke garners some soft laughs, and groans! The Magician opens the policy to reveal the 8S. Wrong card!!! Finally, the Magician reads the front of the cover which urges the spectator to contact the company and quote the policy number. The spectator notes that upon a closer look the policy number magically reveals the whereabouts of the card. It is under the magician's shoe! I can't tell you how easy this to do. Paul even gives you a handling using a signed-card (yes you already figured that out didn't you!). This is the old Magician's Insurance Policy taken in a whole different direction and to a new level. It is fun, funny and magical. I use it in a walk around situation using different cards (yes you can!) each time. Heck carry a deck of cards, David Regal's "Special Delivery", Gordon's "Magician's Insurance 'Card Under Shoe' Policy", and your favorite card to wallet prop and you have three different card-to-impossible-location routines and have taken up almost no pocket space. And you are ready for a whole evening of walk-around or table-hopping magic each set ending with a selected and signed card to impossible location. Powerful stuff! By the way, you can see (and buy) Paul Gordon's version of the trick at his web site (I have no relationship with mr Gordon other than very satisified customer!): http://www.paulgordon.net/acatalog/card_tricks_magic.html

Long time ago Martin Lewis had a great routine, I believe released through Magic Inc. You might contact Martin and see if he still sells it.

There was/is an insurance policy version that is free from Hocus-pocus (with 25$ purchase)

Pete, You're right (as usual)! Martin's version was a signed card to insurance policy routine. He still has it but you have to call and ask for it. I totally forgot that killer routine. I'll have to dig around my boxes and see if I still have it. I used to perform it maybe 15 - 18 years ago! It rocked!

I have great fun with this, Ill even pull it out when I'm doing the "Invisible Deck"...that is if they name the card on the policy.

Right Harry... I may have mine in a box somewhere. Will have to ask Martin about it. He also had a great MacDonald's type gamling routine, that I have forgotten the details about.
When Martin first started doing magic he was strictly a close-up guy. I told him he wouldn't make any money doing just close up and told him to learn a stand up act. To do so I booked him to do a stage act (several months ahead) and loaned him a set of linking rings an egg bag and a rope trick. He learned these and the rest is history.

Every so often I do the Insurance Policy for friends. It always and I mean always has a big effect on them. I can do some pretty amazing card tricks for them and still the Ins Policy gets the biggest response. Remember our job is to entertain and not just to be cleaver for our own sake.

Thanks, Harry
I have always enjoyed this as it was among the first magic I bought. I bought the Gordon version on your recommendation and it is terrific. Thanks |

I have used it for years and have built a whole comedy routine which gets great results. I have also made a larger version mounted and laminated on foam board for larger stage shows. Its an easy trick to do but presentation makes for 90% of the trick's success!
