In case anyone is interested I recieved my order and it was here on March 5th. It is, as far as I can tell, the real deal. I ordered from Kovari's site.

Has anyone got info on who can make a custom set, or a prototype at a reasonable price? I need something different than the standard sizes that are usually sold.
Carlo, thanks for the kind words about my routine, I've actually made a big change to what I do with it and it's made the whole thing a lot more interesting (to me anyway, and to a few friends of ours that were expecting my usual routine and were surprised when I walked out with the modified prop). It's great when a good idea punches you in the face in the middle of the night |

Old, old thread I know, but Magic box now stock the plumbers pole.
I have one of the fishing poles, and may be parting with it soon, and for goodness sake don't use a neo magnet in a prayer stick, because you need to separate them. A neo is way to strong!! |

I have a 3 section Pom Pom pole with 6 Pom Poms. Each section comes apart and work just like the 2 section ones.

Hank is no longer here to tell you, but, the "NOTHING" gag was originally the late Roy Kissell's. Roy was doing it at Abbott's Get Together in 1964. Roy had taken another "standard" prop (a metal tube (bottomless tin can) which had been gaffed for a balloon penetration. Originally, the 350 balloon was inflated inside the tube, and then two big spikes were pushed through two holes in the can. The balloon could then be deflated and removed, and the can could be rotated, using the nails as "handles". Frankly, I thought that it was a "ho-hum" effect. (The second needle added nothing to the effect.)
Roy totally revamped the routine, and, did not "penetrate" the balloon. He began by rotating the bottomless can (tube) by holding the (already inserted) spikes. I have Roy's very funny patter. As he rotated the can, he would say, "If you're wondering what I'm doing, I'm grinding up nothing! This is my Nothing Grinder! After about 15 seconds, he would stop, then peer into the can, and say, "It's full"! He would "prove" that the nothing grinder (the can) was full, by trying to insert an inflated balloon into the "full" grinder. The balloon couldn't be inserted (it was impeded by one of the nails). Roy would then say, "See the balloon is full of "something" (air)and, you cant put something into nothing!" There was more, but, that's all I can remember! (THIS WAS 1964! FIFTY YEARS AGO!) I'm NOT going out to my storage facility (my sister's barn on her farm!) It's cold up here in Northern Michigan! And, the barn isn't heated. Anyway, soon after, Hank introduced the Pom Pon (that's the correct spelling)Stick in his lecture. It was a funny premise, but Roy Kissell originated it. Hank did it as sort of a "throwaway bit". IT HAD NO FINISH!!! About 1984, I picked up a used Kovari Pom Pon Stick at an estate sale. I had no routine, but, I could see that the thing had possibilities. The PROP, and the EFFECT was intriguing. I hadn't seen Hank's lecture, but someone has sent me the lecture notes. BINGO! I WAS MOTIVATED! My mind flashed back to Kissell's "crazy "Nothing Grinder". After a few days, I had roughed out a routine. I tried it in a Junior High School, and, it PLAYED! A week of smoothing the timing, and, it has been "in" the high school (and adult) show, for about 30 years! (It meets my CRITERIA!) I had planned to print up my complete routine for the Pom Pon Stick, in my book ("Dick Oslund--Road Scholar"). But, it was accidentally left out. Reading this thread, and, the interest that has been shown, has motivated me to consider, either printing it, or doing a dvd, with a performance of it. On December 11, I'll be 86. It will take a bit more motivation! (BTW, I haven't seen my friend, Dick Stoner's routine. THAT might be a motivating factor!
