I was at 7-Eleven the other day getting my periodic fix of mystery meat (aka a hot dog) and saw these aluminum straws at the drink dispenser. They were just over a quarter of an inch in diameter, a gold-copper color, and maybe ten inches long. First thing that went thru my mind was, gee, what could I do with these?
Just thought I'd pass the word along.

George I also bought one of those Anodozed straws and ended-up throwing it in my scrap pile after staring at it for a month. There's another thread on this from about 4 months ago
Maybe tht's what WE should invent, cool looking parts that everyone buys but no one uses.

Geees!! Those sound dangerous as heck!! Maybe they're for somebody named "Runs-With-Scissors"? I can hardly think of a more useless and potentially dangerous item.
Maybe you could make a set of miniature "Chinese Sticks" with them. That is all I can imagine. dsalley13 |

Aren't there any better places in the SF Bay area to buy a hot dog than 7-Eleven?

Well, it's may not be magical but the first impression I had was wind chimes.

I thought those straws were useless at first glance. My daughter got four of them as part of a birthday present from her friend. We tried them for sipping slurpees and they really make the slurpee taste better. The slurpee freezes as it moves up the straw and you get a much colder drink.
You can buy aluminum tube stock at some hardware stores with the same dimensions as these straws. Dan |

All our 7-11 stores closed. No one mentioned how long and light they are. I have a booklet from Europe that discribes taking a straw and making a floating stick with it. Ala, Steve Dusheck's Wunderbar, only full size.
Are these super thin and light? How long are they? Do they shine like bright silver? If so I will take a dozen and a now have a use for all that super thin invisible thread. |

Well, while I do have some "store bought" magic stuff, the majority of what I have here are thousands of parts, supplies, and other do-dads, that I've acquired from as many sources, while thinking the same thing George thought when he saw those aluminum straws.
Bob's place is about an hour and a half south of where I am here, but on that date, I will be about 700 miles further north.

How about making a floating wand? Check out Losander's DVDs. He gives you the instructions in great detail...

Yeah, that's a bummer. But, it looks like there might be a nice turnout for this with plenty to do.

I never made anything out of it, but I use it for flipstick and as a basic wand
Weird is part of the job.

I was just explaining to my wife why I save containers and other (useless) items... "I just keep thinking it could become a magic something or other!" LOL

I've been trying to gather a bunch of them for ??? also. I don't know what I can do with them, but they look very cool. Every 7-11 I visited was sold out, and I learned from a clerk that they also have metal straws with different designs on them for $1 more.
A local self-defense school has a class where they teach students how to use the straw in a martial arts fashion.
