Throughout my 9 years as a magician I've done many restaurants, bars, and private events. However, of the larger shows I've done I've never actually been the one to book the event, it was usually work sent to me or done with other magicians. So on a whim I decided to email a local casino to see if they would be interested in magic. My email wasn't too impressive but I figured it was worth a shot considering there aren't too many magicians in my area. Surprisingly they sound at least interested in seeing what I'm all about.
In the email I was asked to provide booking information to the event coordinator. I have promotional pictures and an act I'm proud to stand by. Aside from that I've never really taken the plunge to have "professional" information on file to send out to people. Again, I've always done more private events that didn't deal with a more professional sense of coordination.I've been working on a website and I'm working on getting a promotional video made by a friend who freelances in video production. Can anyone please enlighten me as to what kind of booking information these types of venues want/need before I try to follow through further? Perhaps some samples of contracts, etc.? I've searched the Café but surprisingly I couldn't find much. |

If you go to my website then you can download my promotional materials so you can get a sense of what it should be like. (www.BenjiBruce.com) (its on the front page)
Most of the time, they don't even look at it. What you want to do is create something that looks really nice and has plenty of information in case they do look at it. When I email my promo packet I also give them about 10 youtube links with my demo, video testimonials, a radio appearance, etc that they can look at if they need to. You mainly want to give them a lot of good info to increase your perceived value. Event planners usually want a list of your rates so I provide that in an email when they ask but I also let them know that I charge based on the event, not the hour so those prices are a guideline they can use and not set in stone. |

Strongly suggest you subscribe to Barry Friedmans 7 day course, Get More Corporate Gigs. It's free and you'll learn a bunch of stuff about cracking this sort of job. Review & outline of the course http://www.magiccoach.com/GMCG.htm
