Has anyone else tried this yet?
I had the opportunity to try this at a relaxed, party setting. I was very nervous as the routine is a tad involved. I was worried that I would screw it up or somehow it would not work out so I had a couple of back ups ready. When the time was right, I went for it. It was truly a stunner...I was stunned how much they were stunned. What is a really great about this book test is that the books are all real (ungimmicked). They can be borrowed..as these were. I pretty much did the test as described in the book. To ask for a few books off the shelf made this very fun for the me. for those who have tried this...I have a question or observation about the procedure... a couple of small questions that will probably make this go much smoother the next time. I ran into the host of the party a week later and he grabbed me immediately and told me that people had been talking about the book test all week. He was happy as this made his party a huge hit for those he had invited. I only knew the host and one other person. (That was one of the reasons I decided to go for it.) So would love to talk to someone else who has tried this one. |

Is this Ray Carlyle's effect? If so, yes, it is brilliant. I use it all the time.

John,
No, not Carlyle's which is the "Almost No Gimmick Book Test." Unless I am misttaken, this one is from Christian (of Christian & Katalina) Painter's new book "Protoplasm." I just placed my order and should have it soon. I will post a review (of just the book test -- other have already raved about other content) when I've received and studied it.

I just went through it today in 'Protoplasm', and indeed it seems truly great ! I love the method, it seems to be a killer routine when performed in the right moment... I didn't obviously try it out by now but hope to go for it soon...
Richard, didn't anybody notice you were around the b*** s***f before the routine ? This part makes me a little nervous... And what parts do you think should get smoother ?

Dick, I will look forward to your evaluation.
Richard, I believe I understand what you are looking for. The answers most likely will take up way too much room in this forum. It is best to E-mail me. For the others that are wondering... This is a book test that builds on the concept of absolute fairness. Many people will be involved and many books will be used. The idea being that with so many variables there is no room for cheating. To strengthen that belief, only the simplest of props are used, in fact, everything can be borrowed. Because of this methodolgy, it can be a bit challenging concerning its blocking. It is quite simple and yet a little confusing when you read it and try it for the first time because so many different things are going on at the same time. It is more of a challenge of procedure and order. Once you get it... it is absurdly simple and devastatingly fair and surprising for the audience. Instead of...I guess he will get the word... The audience tends to think...Come on, there is no way that this is possible because the performer controlled nothing. And even let you have an extra choice of which book at the end...after the "prediction/feeling" was made. In the book Protoplasm. The book test is designed as a prediction...however, you could use it as the usual book test and simply get the feeling/mental feelings as they read the passage/page. Richard...my guess/predicition is that your question is about the handling of the 6 books just after you know which pair of numbers is selected.

I have now received my copy of "Protoplasm" and, as promised, have just posted my review of the "Almost Impromptu Book Test" to the Inner Thoughts forum.
BTW, I have also received my copy of Looch's "AREA" book test and I will post my review of it to Inner Thoughts in the next few days.

For the record.. Christian answered my question. and it makes this even better.. wow..the handling of the books is brilliant...
I can't wait to try it again. I also read Dick's review..and I agree with it totally. This is not a "show" book test...it is a book test the will kill when the situtation is correct. Probably a situation the amatures will find themsleves in quite a bit more often. |
