Jay Sankey had a cups routine where he produced a 4th cup as a final load. perhaps you could gleam something from it.

I know this is an old thread, but did you get this to work? I've been trying to get this same thing to work with no success.
Reality is a real killjoy.

Instead of just always banging the CC on the table and lifting to reveal the ball,
vary the Reveal by having the Cup mouth up (perhaps in a spectator's hand) and then pouring the ball out onto the table or hand. Of course, you have to use methods that don't rely on the gimmick, but that also "Closes the door on suspicion." Once this pattern is established you can produce any weird final load using a Ut*l*ty S**tch fro an apparently empty cup or one thought to contain something else "in the cup" is a fiction, as is "not in the cup" -- both relying on Implication and Inference. Properly used and apparently supported by the Reveals and empty hands the audience can be trained to believe and expect almost anything. Just because you have a gimmick does not mean you have to use it every time. ............... having said that, you can have the small cup/glass on the table masked by another object such as the velvet bag. With Directed focus on the other hand just set the Chop Cup over the small cup and slide into position in front of you. The idea is that the Ball is magic and not the Cup, so when the Ball vanishes they have an Expectation the Ball has traveled to the Cup, whic is on the table and you far a way. Have a spectator lift the Cup to reveal the surprise and give them credit for the magic. "Wow, you must have been thinking, 'what if the cup was smaller.' I thought I was magic!"
"the more one pretends at magic, the more awe and wonder will be found in real life." Arnold Furst

This is an old thread, pertaining to an even older problem.
When I load the "Philosopher's Stone" into a cup, I classic palm the stone and let the edge of the cup ride down the palm side of my thumb. This gives me a known pathway to cover the stone without contacting the cup to the stone. Due to the size of the stone and it's weight and lack of proper color, I finally went another rout, creating the stone that I needed. Substituting the real stone (dyed granite), I sculpted a seven sided quartz-like stone of plaster and cast a mold of it. Within this mold I cast an acrylic stone, setting small glitter and some transparent color within the "stone". This "stone" is far softer than the real thing, allowing me to load this large, cup-capacity item without it talking. in fact, it was so effective that I now have to bump my finger rings with the cup to get it to sound off when I reveal the stone, for I cannot get a decent ring from the cups with the "stone". The fact that I can also drill a small hole in the "stone" allows me to put it onto a spike, rather than custom create a fork-styled holder for it, which also makes it much easier to steal. There are always more than one solution to any problem. |
