I have 3 year old daughter that loves magic tricks so I'm always looking for something that she'll understand and that amuses her. I've always liked the Web for the awesome reaction you get from women or men when done right, nothing beats it IMO at least nothing I know of for around $10. Well I was inspired the other day as I was putting her toys away and this is what came of it.
I took four blank bicyle cards from my Blizzard deck(any blank faces will do), a plastic toy frog, and some Disney stickers I found that weren't already stuck to our furniture, tables, or TV. Anyway, I stuck Cinderella on one, Prince Charming on another, and a Witch on the third, and left one blank. And stuck some of that sticky "Web" goo on the frog. (BTW DOES ANYONE KNOW WHAT THAT IS OR WHERE YOU CAN GET MORE OF IT WITHOUT HAVING TO BUY THE TRICK AGAIN? I'm sure like IT and magician's wax, there is a low cost alternative.) Anyway I change the story depends if its boy or girl. If boy, I start with "knight", who needs to save the princess, runs in to the witch, then poof he disappears(blank card) she turned him into a frog. For a girl, I start with the princess, she sees a witch who tells about the curse of her prince, then disappears, the girl finds a frog, kisses it, and prince charming appears. I won't go into detail about the card handling. Anyone familiar with the Web and the flushtration count should be able to come up with their own handling. This version is also great for single women. I did a similar version at a bar/restaurant for a group of girls there for a bachelorette party. Some quick thinking on my part I did the trick for the "bride to be" and ended with "You have to kiss a lot of frogs before you meet your Prince!"...Let me tell you, they were blown away by this little trick. The bride was convinced her girlfriends hired me for this express purpose she was nearly in tears. I was just in the right place at the right time and still had some of my kid tricks on me. Now I bring that setup everytime I go to a bar type setting and use it as a closer when I do some tricks for a group of women. If I knew something about publishing a trick, I would think this is a pretty good twist on a effect and somewhat marketable. I welcome your opinions and feed back. Thanks. David,
I think that this is a very neat effect! There is/was a publishing outfit called Underground Magic. They did have a web site, but I haven't been able to access it lately, but perhaps you can locate them. As for the sticky goo, the stuff that sticks the paper to the bottom of a Zingers candy mints tin seems to be the same stuff. Blue Tack will also work, but you won't get as many repeats from it. That is a great idea! Makes my wonder what else I could stick on the back of someone's hand. Nice creativity!

I chose to keep using the spider, but instead, I had the spec choose a card (forced) the have them hold the card in their hand. Then I go through the flustration count web thingy, and when they turn their card over, there are several small spiders glued to the card. It's still a fun effect without freaking them out too bad by putting the spider actually on them. Just a thought.

On a similar note: David Harkey has a routine where a butterfly sticker vanishes and appears on the back of a spectator's hand. I believe it was the only routine Jamy Ian Swiss commented on positively in his review of Harkey's book Ah-Ha, although I thought the book was decent.

Future4told, Great idea and story. Also, I don't like the flustration count (maybe I don't do it right) instead I use the glide and it works out great for me.

As to the sticky stuff, there is what's called Spirit Gum that usually comes in small bottles and is used to hold fake beards, etc., on in plays and so forth. The right amount of that might work, but it can be super sticky, depending on the brand, so be careful, of course.
I like the trick idea, by the way. |
