From the Radio Times:
Exploring King James I's attempts to stamp out witchcraft and satanism in England and Scotland, which led to hundreds of women being tortured and executed in the 17th century. The programme investigates the influence of James's book Daemonology, which was published in 1597 and claimed to show how witches could be identified and destroyed - leading to a wave of infamous witch hunts and trials in subsequent years. However, recently discovered archaeological evidence in Cornwall suggests the royal crusade against the occult may not have been entirely successful. |
