I have The Knot Funny trick from kandu. It's a cool routine, but I need help with the method for tying the ropes together. In it, you tie 3 or 4 (8"-ish long) segments of rope together and hold it up verticly by the top piece, but then with a light pull, the ropes fall apart for comedic effect. The method taught on the instruction dvd isn't so good in my opinion. The ropes fall apart too easily - the slightest movement makes them come apart too easily and makes the trick impracticable (for me anyway, maybe other don't have that issue). I'm not a rope guy, can anyone direct me to a source for learning a better method? Thanks

Hey Dan...Is that the whole effect? It might play, in the right hands, but it doesn't sound like much! --But, I'm an old geezer!
Aside from the actual effect, which is rather weak (I think) the mechanics, apparently, are a big factor, too. From your description, it appears to be the OLD "fadeaway" knot in TARBELL. The two ends of the rope (or handkerchief) are given a half twist around each other and a single overhand knot is then tied. Friction will allow the two pieces to hold together (just barely). A shake, and the two items will separate as the "knot" falls apart. The principle of the fadeaway knot is good. Hey, Harry Blackstone was not afraid to use it. (Me, too! Karrell Fox and I discussed the principle and we mutually worked out a technique that got spontaneous applause) The effect, you describe, might play for a clown or "clumsy, inept magician. Done as a "serious" trick, I think the kids would yell: "slip knot". I don't know how you work, or what your personality is while performing. --Also, don't know how (i.e. your presentation)(or why)you are doing it! As Charlie Miller used to say, "How do you get "into" it? Maybe we can work something out. At first glance, however, it sounds like one of those tricks made to sell to a customer--not a trick for performing. Fill me in a bit on the whole thing......

Hi Dick, Thanks for your help. Jeff from kandu helped me out with it. It's a whole multi-phase comedy bit with some props. I only described the part I needed help with. I pM'd you. I'll look up the fadeaway knot.
