Oh, I just found another possible solution. This is a toy remote controlled forklift truck that can run around on your desk. The remote is a little bigger that I want and has a small antenna but think it will work in my pocket if the forklift truck is near me. The part of the forklift truck that I would use is the lifting mechanism which moves nice and slow both up and down. I'll probably cut off the forks and attach the vertical part horizontally to one of the solutions you guys have suggested, thanks. I have ordered one and am excited to get it. The whole thing is about $41 plus $5 S&H.

"Father"
"Pinocchio" But seriously, look at some of those desktop toys that can be run from your lap top.

Well, I got my miniature toy forklift and it is pretty cool, but its too noisy for pinocchio. Looks like my nephew will get a nice Christmas gift. I have ordered a small slow high torque 12volt motor and a push button remote with 12volt receiver. Maybe I can get them to do the job. Also thought of the rigid rope trick for the nose. If the motor was in the top of the head the rope would be flexible in that direction and rigid where it comes out of the nose (kinda expensive nose though).
