As many of you know, my mentalism approach centres around the power of the mind - in a sense of accomplishing what we would perceive to be "impossible" and re-evaluating what IS possible.

I've been getting some great publicity lately with some of my challenges.

Just yesterday, I was featured in a full page newspaper article in one of our major city newspapers regarding my upcoming "24 Hour Marathon to Fight Hunger"

Image

You read a scanned copy of the article here: http://www.amazingcompanyevents.com/wp-c......scan.pdf

He did a really great article! I know they will be doing a follow-up article on how my challenge went. I also anticipate more publicity coming out of this since the challenge itself is still 2 weeks away.

Last week, I had a community-level newspaper run the story as well - here is a link to the on-line version of the article: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/our-com......161.html

Also I might have posted this before (sorry...ignore this if I have) - but earlier in the year I was featured in the National (Canadian) CBC news. Here is the video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MHGR4RwoN0

I seem to have tapped into something that the public is fascinated about.

Intertwining mentalism and physical challenges is both a logical and mysterious step in entertainment... Bravo!!!!!

Who could have predicted this????

I was just awarded the Tensor Brand (division of 3M Canada) "Hero" award. They wanted someone who was using athletic ability to support a charity in a creative way that brought together a community. I'll be supplying various posts, photos, and video for their facebook page (tips and motivation etc). This was a cross-Canada contest. I understand they'll be using me in their promo (to some degree...I'm not sure). As part of the prize, I won $2000 for my charity.

The announcement was made on their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TensorBrand

The neat thing is...I haven't even done the event yet!!! I know at least one media outlet will be attending to take pictures for a follow-up interview. Hopefully more attention will come on the day. I even have a cheerleader team coming out for 5 hours during my run!

I wanted to update my Penny friends here as I'm super proud of how my 24 hour run worked out.

I am pleased to say that this 24 hour effort was a BIG success with thousands in donations, lots of community involvement and engagement, and (most importantly) TONS of media coverage (way more than expected). I ran 151.5 kms (94 miles) during the 24 hours.

Here is a video I recorded myself during my run documenting my progress and highlights throughout the entire 24 hours (9 min video). This video was made for 3M Canada who declared me a "Hero" and gave me $2000 for my cause: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2SGYYNRPtWo&feature=youtu.be

Here is the press I received:

Newspaper (in addition to the articles linked in previous posts):

Here is the Winnipeg Free Press article: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/M......481.html
Here is the Winnipeg Sun article: http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/06/13/ru......t-hunger

Here are videos of 3 TV news stations covering the run:

Breakfast Television: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i_4DzA_fUtg&feature=youtu.be
Global News: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkoEsiqhKZ0
CTV News: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=akPKJroYgRE

Here are the clips from Virgin Radio 103 "The Ace Burpee Show" morning show (our most popular music radio station) as Ace Burpee ran with me: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3N_hcfYJssc

There are a lot of photos of the event that went up on the "Lunches With Love" (my chosen charity) Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/LunchesWithLoveWinnipeg

Myrna Driedger, the Member of Legistative Assembly (provincial government) for my area of Manitoba (Charleswood), will be delivering a Private Members Statement in the Legislature to honour my run and the cause I'm supporting. She came by to cheer me on during the event as well.

It's been pretty awesome!

My next "bigger" event is around New Year's eve for a 72 hour run in Arizona. I thought I might get some publicity for that but I'm not sure if I could get any better than I've gotten here. I've turned into a local celebrity. I'm have to take a different approach in the future to keep novel and interesting to the press.

Anyway, please do enjoy the above links! Like I said, I'm super proud to say it all worked out!

It's amazing me the exposure and benefits that have come out of this "little" event I put together.

Yesterday my elected provincial government representative (Member of the Legislative Assembly)(remember I'm in Canada for our "states" are "provinces" and so on) made what's called a "private members statement" to all provincial representatives (including our Premier) to recognize my 24 hour run and the charity I was supporting. Myself and Nathan (13 year old founder of "Lunches With Love") attended the session. The result was a standing ovation from our provincial government leaders!!!! It was very exciting. My 24 hour event is now recognized in the government records for all time Smile

Here is a picture of myself, our MLA Myrna-Driedger who made the statement, and Nathan (charity founder).

Unfortunately, video recording of the presentation (and standing ovation) was not permitted (legally I guess). I will be getting of copy of the transcript to keep. Also, Myrna was kind enough to offer words to the camera: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bg0MA7UzvYM

My 24 hour event page on my web site now boasts a massive about of social proof about the work I do and how it applies to my motivational presentations and entertainment. http://www.amazingcompanyevents.com/24-hour-marathon/

I'm proud of how this all turned out. Perhaps this will provide some inspiration to others putting on charity events.

Fantastic Scott! That's the way it can (and should) be done. The benefits will be multi-fold and long lasting. You should be proud. Now tell me, was it easier than you would have thought? (the press and publicity, not the 94 miles)

Thanks!

Honestly, I was at first expecting it to be a modest effort but the whole thing grew to became almost a full time job for at least a couple of weeks. There were a lot of releases sent and interviews done. Many schools and community organizations who joined up and needed a co-ordination of effort. Companies started to get wind of the event and were making donations. Community volunteers, friends, and family members were all coming up with ideas and making contributions. I had a on-line contest that I worked hard to win and earned $2000 and national recognition. I made videos for the sponsors. Plus I needed to not make it so that it wasn't too hard on the charity itself (run by a family) by spreading out the effort even though it did get pretty hectic by the end. I'm still gaining benefits and arranging for money and donations to make it to the charity. I wish I could say it was "easy" but it was more than I expected. However, the benefits (to me, my family, the charity, the community, etc) were also much greater than I could have imagined as well.

With all the attention, I'm tempted to repeat this but make it more extreme. Seems to be a good way to position myself while doing good for the community. Plenty of time to consider options.
