I'm interested in learning this art but I wouldn't do it as part of my act but for like friends/coworkers and such. Is there "THE" book on cold reading like JB BeaxBeaux's Modern Coin Magic is one of, if not the best, intro to coin magic books for beginners. What steps should I take including a step zero if you have one because Im starting from scratch.

Often times I've heard Ian Rowland's The Full Facts book of Cold Reading is the place to start.

Ian Rowlands is the most complete source.

Ian Rowland's book is NOT the place to learn cold reading. It is a great analysis of the art, but it is not a starting point. There are several good starting points, but I would recommend any of the works here - http://www.thecoldreadingcompany.co.uk - to learn how to actually do a cold reading.
There are several equally good resources as well, such as anything by Richard Webster, Mark Lewis's DVD, etc. Also check Doug's (ddyment)list in the post above. A great starting point.
Check out Tony's new thriller Dead or Alive http://www.amazon.co.uk/Alive-Varrick-Bo......n+carson

Thanks Tony! I seem to be getting quite a few mentions here at the moment. Funny how cold reading comes in and out of vogue as a buzzword.
