I had 22 reviews on Yelp at one time. Now every single one of the reviews are gone (hidden). They have been dropping others here in my city and also I read it is happening throughout the country. They blame it on a number of factors which is untrue.
I love google but many find it more difficult to leave a review there. Hopefully soon I won't have to rely on new customers finding me as working with an agent is much easier and less time consuming.

Mine have all vanished as well. It's too bad they didn't follow TripAdvisor's model. (Sans the requirement for a permanent location.)

How true, I figure they will continue to lose business as the general public become aware. If I mention Yelp at my bookings to business people, I usually hear a barrage of hate.

Google reviews drive your organic free search results too. You do need to be proactive about asking for them. Once you have your Google my business set up (Its free), you forecast up front when booking your client that you will be asking for a review, testimonial and referrals when your done with your event, party etc....Don't waste time with other review sites. Then you could follow up with something like this..... This is Hal the magician. It was a pleasure meeting and working with your group (kids) etc. Thank you so much for your business! Would you honor me by giving a quick review on Google? Thanks so much! It helps my business grow and means the world to me. Google’s algorithm still looks at reviews to rank search and even quality score.

Begging for these reviews is the same as these performers that are begging for testimonials. It's all manufactured, suggested and coerced actions. The whole concept behind reviews and testimonials were they were organic, done from the point of being personally moved or motivated to do so BY THEM (the purchaser, client or customer) not the performer begging or telling them to.
This is why reviews and testimonials have become less effective, not to mention misused by many performers. Rather than complaining how Yelp is removing your reviews and feeling as victims, perhaps trying to understand that they have moved to a different business model and why might be more beneficial? Plus the info being offered is quite subjective here as it primarily on pertains to those serving consumer markets which is only a portion of performers. Seems like much conventional business mentalities going on here not entertainment business as much. Are you trying to sell refrigerators or special and unique entertainment services here? I agree, Google isn't on many people's radar in that form. To most its a search engine, not a review site. So you have to essentially educate them now to direct them there to leave your coerced reviews. I think time and effort can be much more beneficially spent than trying to get unknown entities to try to say good things about you. Seems much ego is at play here in this as well. |

So many folks love what we do and don’t even know how to leave a review. They found us with reviews in many cases. They do tell their friends, this just helps. When I realized they like doing it and needed help, I help. It sure helps my business.
If you’ve set up your free GMBpage...You can certainly text or email them and add the link as in this example: This is Hal the magician. It was a pleasure meeting you and performing for your kids. Thank you so much for your business! Would you honor me by giving a quick review on Google? To give me a review, click the link below, select 5-Stars and write a few comments. Thanks so much! It helps my business grow and means the world to me. <<< link here>> Remember the key is that you’ve forecast from the point of your first setting up the date for the event that you be asking for referrals and a review if and only they were raving fans! |

Oh, I understand exactly what you're saying, I don't have a comprehension problem. I'm just saying this is a very me-based consumer market level approach, and not as much of a big deal or impressive as you seem to be making it.
I'm glad you are excited and passionate about it and you feel you are getting something valuable from it. But how about operating your business to and from your clients' perspective, not our own. Are unknown people's 5-star reviews that important to your business or your ego? Also if I received this email from you I wouldn't be moved to do this and may actually be offended. Begging for reviews seems quite desperate. Also, more is not better. |

I’m with you Mindpro. I’m in no way condoning begging. It’s definitely not for ego. It is all about the client relationship. I’m not saying my way is right and anyone else's way is wrong by any means. It is just a way. A different way perhaps. Seems to work for me.
I just thought the info might help someone. |

I agree and thank you. I think it's important to distinguish when something here is an opinion as opposed to presented as fact or from a professional industry perspective. "This is how I do it" is different from "this is how the industry operates." I think sharing our own stories is great and helpful as others can learn from them, but when presented as "this is how it must be done" it changes the dynamics and positioning of the information being presented.
Also the distinguishing between what you are doing and prefer in consumer markets is seen completely different in professional markets, so it is important to realize this and make this distinction. |

I believe the Google review is still very powerful WHEN COMBINED WITH branding, a quality web site, pictures, etc. Yes, they can be manufactured, but you know what can’t be manufactured? The lack of 1 or 2 star reviews. In other words, if your company does not have an excellent product or does not make outstanding customer service a priority, sooner or later it will catch up with you in the form of a 1 or 2 star reviews.
To be honest, when considering a purchase on Amazon I will first look at the 1 and 2 star reviews. What were these people so unhappy about? By process of elimination I choose my product. If I were a consumer considering an entertainer I would certainly eliminate the ones that have a significant percentage of low ratings.

I completely understand what you are saying but this is all under the premise that people buy entertainment the way they do other products on Amazon or in conventional busiess. I disagree with this. This only occurs if you, as the entertainer, allows this to occur. This is why magicians are often just an interchangeable commodity to many clients, who shop based on conventional default mentalities such as on price alone. You are allowing them to deal with seeking an entertainer through conventional mentalities. At best you get someone that is pleased with your services like a pair of nice socks. Nothing, memorable, unique or special.
I often ask performers why are these reviews so important to them? I know it is because of the conventional ways they conduct business, they make this happen rather than change all of these dynamics to more entertainment-favorable (and different) understandings. When you say "If I were a consumer considering an entertainer I would certainly eliminate the ones that have a significant percentage of low ratings" This is the exact mentalities and perceptions I am speaking of. So you are not booking based on actual reasons, benefits and special USPs that they offer, just rather a lack of others (uneducated) consumers complaints or dissatisfactions. I just have never understood this. You are supposed to be a specialist and experienced pro in what you do and offer, use and utilize that to your advantage rather than just accepting typical consumer shopping approaches that lump you into the common marketplace.. |

Google is just deleting Google+. And good riddance.
Yelp and Google reviews are nice... especially if your market is LOCAL and your services are priced for the middle-class. Otherwise they are a hindrance. I wish I could delete my Yelp profile... but I can't. PS. Did you know YOU CAN'T delete your Yelp? It's true. They own it. Not you. I should have read the fine print! |

I guess you could say my USB is, "I have a top quality product, my many customers are very pleased, I guarantee you will be pleased too or you don't pay!" Clearly I am not a marketing major, but I do know how to listen to customers and satisfy them. To me, that's more important than any USB or marketing strategy you can have.
