Don't hold me to it, but as I remember the Flip CC, was never published. That is why I was so intrigued when I saw a performer do it years ago. I still see the card held in front of the extended left arm and a shake and it changed.
I believe the Snap CC was published in the LePaul book or Cliff Green book, but again I did not verify before I posted these references. If they are not published in those early books, but then possibly it was never published, as if you can do do a double lift, it is not difficult to jump to the CC. |

Marlo had a snap change on one of his videos. I'm not sure if he ever wrote it up anywhere.
It is performed by someone on this youtube clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WSVeelNnI4 The Snap Change was also written up by Hay in _The Amateur Magician's Handbook_ on page 75. He writes: -----quote----- Although the most truly magical-looking of changes—for a single card is instantly transformed in full view—this has remained a mere curiosity because it left card A in a position that almost no angle would hide. With a little tinkering, however, I have got very good use out of the snap change. -----end quote----- Hay then goes on to explain his solution to the angle problem. Marlo had a version that I saw on a video. I can't remember the name of the tape. It was slightly different from the version in the Hay book although Marlo's IIRC did leave the card "in a position almost no angle would hide." Hay's solution was pretty straightforward and left you clean. Also, in Marlo's version the card was held so the face of the card was horizontal. In Hay's version the face of the card is held vertically. At the end of the Marlo video there were some outtakes that showed some problems Marlo had when the change did not work smoothly. I'm not sure why they would have put those outtakes in, because it made the move look like it wasn't reliable/sure-fire. There were some interesting adaptations, though, like using the snap change to change a card into a match box or something like that. The Marlo video might have been "Marlo Without Tears." There was also a book by that name that you might check. If you go to the link I supplied above, you will see a list of videos related to the same topic on the side, one of which addresses the clean-up problem. ----- Sonny

While we're on the subject of startlingly visual color changes, I'll mention these two:
1) Vertical Color Change--described on pages 304-307 and with five photos--in Walter B. Gibson's _The Complete Illustrated Book of Card Magic_. The deck is held vertically faces toward the audience. The right hand is held a few inches in front of the deck with its fingers closed. As the right hand spreads its fingers, the card visibly changes! 2) Spring Flourish Color Change--published by Hugard in one of the books in his "Card Manipulations" series. A card is side-jogged face up for about half its length in the middle of the face down deck. The right hand executes the spring flourish into the left hand, and mid-way in the cascade from the right hand to the left, the card visibly changes to a different card. Hugard's write-up uses a d--b-e l--t. I adapted it to use with a d--b-e f-c- card. If you experiment with the second color change I mentioned just from my description, you will likely see how the color-change works. As I've mentioned before, though, I find the current Bicycle cards too stiff to do the spring flourish well. It's easier with an Aviator deck, and since you would use a d--b-e f-c- card, the back design doesn't really matter. In my handling, I would place a chosen card into the center of the deck and try to make it rise to the top. When it didn't appear there, I would try to make it appear at the bottom. But the bottom card was wrong, too. However, since the bottom card was my d--b- f-c-r, I simply removed it still face up and then did the spring flourish color change with it to change it to the chosen card. I think knowledgeable card workers will be able to work it out from my description. ----- Sonny P.S. Gibson's _The Complete Illustrated Book of Card Magic_ is a great reference book if you don't have it. http://tinyurl.com/pfyw39n The cover blurb that says "The Principles and Professional Techniques Fully Revealed in Text and Photographs" is an accurate and honest description.

I saw a magician WRONGLY find what was supposed to be a chosen card. Deck was held in right hand with wrongly chosen card sitting face up -- then, the card quickly sprung up/flipped, and switched to the audience's CORRECT chosen card. This was a one-hand effect -- it was so automatic that it was very entertaining. Also, it was quicker than the eye, and it happened at an unexpectedly fast pace. The only reason I say that it was a "flip" is because I could hear the sliding snap of the playing card(s).
I'd appreciate some information on finding the handling of this effect, if this rings a bell with anyone!! Thanks Chris |

Hi Zaub -- Thanks for the note -- ok, it's Paul Harris?? Yeah well, it's a zinger of a move, and I'd LOVE to start learning it. Would you mind PMing me with info about where to find it?
I appreciate it - thanks! Chris |
