With Shin Lim's 52 Shades hitting shelves there seems to be a renewed interest in the instant card transformation. Shin mentions this type of card gimmick in passing but does not give instructions on how to build it.
Reading one of the boards I noticed magician "Alex DLF" working on some variations. I PM'd him and was happy to discover that he offers a download on how to build these cards. Nice instructions, easy to follow. He is working right now on trying to credit the original sources and earlier developments...there must be a lot of history there! Anyhow, if you'd like to learn this, PM him. Here is a 30 sec. vid of him demonstrating the power of the gimmick: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-St404SIoyA |

I got this download and it is well done, to the point, easy to follow and is around 15 minutes long. If you want to make your own gimmicks which you have control over then get this download.
Alexis also took the time to give links to go to buy the needed material. He does give one short routine as an example. I have several ideas of my own I plan on trying now. Recommended. James Adamson Staff Member of The Magic Café

I just purchased Alex's download and agree that the instruction is very clear. As mentioned above, he provides links to where one can purchase needed materials. He also provides a routine and some ideas on uses for the gimmick. Overall, the I find the download to be a good value and I recommend it.

The Acrobatic Card as it is called, is from the 1970's. It was very popular around the world.
If you want to make one, I suggest you invest in Marc DeSouza Master Works Volume 1 DVD. He makes the card on video right in front of you. http://www.llpub.com/zenshop/index.php?m......_id=2638 After making the card, why not find out all the things you can do with this magician's weapon. The late great Ed Marlo wrote a booklet on the Acrobatic Card, with a number of magic tricks you can perform. http://www.magicinc.net/acrobaticcards.aspx If you find the task beyond your ability, do to buying a paper cutter, and finding the exact center of a playing card, and then finding out you only have 10 fingers and need some extra fingers. Why not just buy the version you need. Yes, the Acrobatic Card is made in changing card, double face card. The true Acrobatic Card was designed by length, not width. Width was another version before the Acrobatic Card was invented. http://www.magicinc.net/acrobaticcard.aspx |

I purchased this download and agree with others -- the instruction is very clear. Alexis apologizes for his English but I found him very easy to understand.
I've made Acrobatic Cards using dental dam, but Alexis uses a different design. It's easier to make, adjust, and maintain. Acrobatic Cards made with dental dam have a shorter shelf life, and when they break, they are done. (At least the ones I am familiar with. I learned how to make these from THE ART OF CARD SPLITTING DVD by Martini.) I still like making both types, though. Both designs have their advantages and disadvantages. Ross |
