I will share a stark example of my point of view, using the kid show market.
The Great Zucchini is truly a Kidshow Rockstar in the Greater Washington DC area. He got there by offering a very unique show and presenting himself to clients in a unique way. He created intrigue. He branded himself as the Number One Entertainer for Small Children. Everything he did from a business model was done with the purpose to achieve this goal. His show content, publicity, promotional activities were all aimed in one direction. It has afforded him the luxury of charging above market rates and full bookings without significant promotional activities on an ongoing basis. People call and ask specifically for him, not an entertainer. He does not receive emails/calls from people unfamiliar with who he is who are looking to book an entertainer so he spends little time describing his show, pricing structure or booking options.. His success was not achieved through the use SEO, split page testing, or any of the other internet tactic. He has a great website, that is utilized mainly for social proof. Once his level of success is achieved, the strategies of internet marketing being discussed become much less relevant. The other extreme would be a performer that has a business model that focuses on obtaining the greatest number of inquiries and providing an adequate show at an affordable price. The "McDonalds" of performing, so to speak. Be everywhere on the internet and set your price where you book enough shows to make your numbers. Most of us are somewhere in between these two examples, and depending where we are will depend on how much (and when) we should invest in improving our internet marketing. |

All of this shows me exactly why I concentrated my whole career on residence or long term gigs. Wow this stuff makes my eyes glaze over.
Mike you may not want to hear it but good on you for constantly working to improve even when you have had some success. Fantastic attitude. Keep moving forward. I personally could not do things like this. Many are and it is a great way to do it. As for red or blue... I literally have no opinion.

The $425 I received from them meant a lot. They called me back again this year to do their company picnic at a state park: The Detroit Parade Company noticed my website a few years ago. Ever sense they have been calling me to The River Days Festival on weekends. This year they wanted me to mention the festival in all three of Detroit's news media on tv: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ncuJaLXMyQ Take my word for it, I made plenty of more gigs from my websites each year. To those who wish not to use websites, I have nothing against them. That is the way they chose to run their business. I don't see why anyone would be against me for having a website or asking what color looks best. BTW, I ask the question to more than just magicians: http://www.websitebabble.com/showthread.......st239409 |

I'd suggest getting some designers to look it over.

It was not intended for a specific type of venue. There were other flaws too. The improvements did not begin to come until I started asking questions on the Café. Guess what, it worked. When I have the websites together focusing on kid's magic entertainment, I will go thru the same procedure focusing on a school assembly website. It is no need for me to rush that since I have an agent already. My present website is not even finished yet. I have more to add. I should be finished next month. |
