Now would be the time to send your prayers to Jim. Word from his long time love, Lori, is that he is not doing well at all. It is only a matter of days really. Jim has been friends with many onthis forum. I count him as a friend and am richer in life for having known Jim Zajicek.
Jim is not answering his phone anymore, being too weak to talk, but perhaps if you know his number and leave a message he will be able to hear it. At this point all we can do is pray and wrap Jim in a blanket of warm love to carry him through. I would say to my friend: "May all your lots be green. Pick out a good lot for the rest of us, because we will be there shortly." |

Jim and I were on the Franzen show, the season of 1977. If I remember that was his "Johnny Come Lately" season.Thinking of Jim, I'm reminded of the old Navy "slogan": "One hand for the ship, one hand for yourself", Jim was a fine young man who did more than his share of getting it up and down and getting it down the road.
I'm able to attend Mass almost daily, and Jim is in my prayers. I hope he is in yours, too.

I just got this post on F/B from FreakShow Deluxe. Just heard the news about our friend, showman Jim Zajicek, who was The Big Circus Sideshow, has passed away after his long battle with cancer. He was a friend of FreaksShow Deluxe and so many others. He will be greatly missed. Rest in Peace, Jim.

Mere words can not express how sad I was yesterday when I got the news ...Jim was perhaps my best friend in show business....
We first met in the early 80's in the backyard of Frazen' Bros . Circus...I was walking around with Wayne , the owner, and Jim came over and introduced himself....Wayne laughed like HE!!..." the kid doesn't know your sons do the same acts he does".... Couple of years later Jim called in response to one of my ads in CIRCUS REPORT...and we still were unable to use him.... I missed see Jim on Sterling and Reid Bros .Circus by a few days...My wife and I were there being generally useful and Jim came in with the new elephants..... Didn't see each other until a small fair here in Florida...about 10 years ago....THIS was the beginning of a friendship that was meant to be....We were different in some ways BUT in many ways we were the same person...Not just a love of the CIRCUS but a lover of TENT SHOWS..'''To quote Jim "There's something about a tent that SCREAMS circus" Last March, Jim stopped by our home and had lunch. We talked about many things and he told me he had been to a doctor and he was scared... Anyone who knows Jim knows " I'm scared" is NOT words you normally would hear from him...;He was afraid his cancer was back...I told him about my battle with Bladder Cancer...and how I had BEAT it...and was 3 years 'cancer free'... My advice was simple...NEVER GIVE UP ,,,but No matter how hard he fought ,..no matter how positive he was...the cancer stole his life.July 3. To say I will miss him is an understatement of major proportion... REST IN PEACE MR.Z. And now a word for EVERYONE reading this....DON'T ever think "Cancer won't or can't happen to ME"....CANCER is a mean, nasrty monster and can kill ANYONE it wants....IF you have a pain anywhere in your body and it doesn't go away ...GET IT CHECKED OUT.....The only way you can BEAT it is to catch it early.... God Bless Us All |

I remember reading Jim's ad last winter, and yes, it brought a smile.
I almost wrote him. But, I'm 82 and doubt I could cut it anymore. In the '40s, when I was a teen, I broke in with Joe Lemke's Monkey Circus and Side Show. Later with Mickey Mansion's ten in one. I did magic, fire and talked the big python. Thanks for reposting Jim's ad. It reminded me of a BILLBOARD ad in the mid '4OS by (I think) Lew Dufour. (Dufour was one of the big back end showman before Ward Hall.) Lew specifically asked for people who "eat with knife and fork"!

Jim and I started out on somewhat shaky ground but soon (due to my charm, understanding and good looks**) became very good, even close, friends via late night phone calls and private messages...
I miss those calls, cuttin' up jackpots and making outrageous plans for future endeavors. It was a moment of great pride when Jim asked me to make him a special 'Zibit' for his truely fine show. We never got to meet as planned. The man knew his game and what it took to present value to the public..hopefully we were all taking notes. RIP. (** Private joke for Jim)

I met Jim on this site a few years ago and he invited me to come meet him at the Colo. State Fair. We became friends and I was able to spend time every year since then with him at one of his spots. Good friends are hard to come by and I'm going to miss him a lot.
