I have been asked a question - can anyone help?
"In 1975 I was working a booth at the Alabama State Fair and at the end of the fair, the carnies had a party with a burlesque, gambling, etc. and they had a special name for this end-of-fair party. I can't remember what they called it. Do you by any chance know what that might be?" Just not enuf info for me to tell her the answer. |

I think someone in another place and time called it a jamboree.

Yes! I hadn't been under canvas for EONS! --But, in '85, I managed Tim Deremer's Ape Show. I think it was on Deggeler's show that we had a Jamboree.

RAS used to have the Jamboree in the scooter top with the jazz band from the jig show in WQ.
One of the last living 10-in-one performers. I wanted to be in show business the worst way, and that was it.

Side note on this...The tent show I was with would have a cast (And invited guests/attractive groupies) party after the Saturday night shows. Basically, it was an impromptu talent show with all of the stuff we didn't use on stage or things we had been working on that were inappropriate for the family audiences. We called it the Afterglow...and it was always the night before we packed up to move to the next location.
I suppose that would be similar but we sometimes invited townies. |
