A study published in late July explored changes in brain activity while under hypnosis. Using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), researchers looked at brain activity in subjects at rest, during memory retrieval, and during two different hypnosis experiences. The study found changes brain activity in areas thought to be connected with focused attention, and with awareness and evaluation of one's environment. The findings may help researchers understand the intense focus, lack of self-consciousness and increased suggestibility of people in a hypnotic state.
Here's an article about the study from the New York Times: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/30/scienc......tml?_r=0 And here's a link to the study itself: http://m.cercor.oxfordjournals.org/conte......abstract

You'll probably have to settle for the New York Times summary, since the journal article is behind a pay-wall. Then again, if anybody is truly interested you might be able to get the study itself with a bit of help from a local public library or university library.
