Cbguy: no, just an ***. Add unrepentant and deluded by pride to the characteristics that typify the description in question. I have had my fair share of poorly worded, or misguided posts, but at least I have the insight and self-reflective abilities to realize it and try to make it right instead of dig myself deeper.

Seriously, Kenodad?
Egotistical is the very last thing I am . Very confident, yes and I understand how that can come off differently. I'm not even going back to review what I said earlier because it was a while back and not necessary. I would't apologize anyway ; ) Kenodad, I am a full time performer and have been for the last 18 years. I work the streets mostly and make hats from a single show, that are equal to what some people make in a week. I also do a lot of fairs, festivals and corporate performances. I'm kind of bragging because I think what I've accomplished is awesome. However, I have freely shared what I do and how I do it with other buskers and they can attest to the fact that the methods I've provided them with work very well. They continue to use those methods to keep their hat's fat. I'm friends with most of the well known buskers who have written books, videos, etc and If I wanted to stroke my ego and get some fame from within the community, I can easily write a book and get that. I just don't want it. I can also use my real name or my characters name, but I'm not the guy who needs everyone to know who I am to kiss my a$s. I share with buskers because my ideas are not theories, they are test and have been used for over a decade and I really like helping people to shorten their learning cure and make more money. With that said, I still think this bag is over priced. Maybe it's because I would never use it or because it's not suited for what I do. However, it may be suited for you or other performers and if you think it's worth it and useful, that's great. By the way, where do you perform? How long have you been a working pro? You are you a full time performer, right? Or are you an EZ chair magician/hobbiest? The guy who likes to impress other magicians? I don't give a darn what magicians think simply because they don't pay me...anyway, I'm just curious to know more about you. Looking forward to hearing back from you soon now. |

CBGuy:
Yes, seriously.... Are you really so blind to not see how you have come across here? AND to not care? "Very confident, yes and I understand how that can come off differently." That is for sure. There is a fine line between egotistical and confident. When you add tactless, disrespectful, condescending, and unwilling to apologize (just on principle) to confident, I think you might be taking a step to the dark side. Egotistical may NOT be the last thing you are.......Luke...search your feelings. I have reviewed some of your recent posts. I think you make some good points and offer good suggestions. I am not sure how this observation and your self-proclaimed extensive magic experience and success apply to whether or not you have come across as an ***. I could have looked up your prominent success in magic by checking your website....Oh wait, you don't have a link to a website. Well, I could do a quick google search....Oh wait, you don't provide your name. Not very transparent, for so much "confidence." I am also not sure how MY position or experience in magic applies here. Did you want to have some kind of magic ****ing contest? Well, I bet MY chop cup is bigger than YOUR chop cup, or at least more expensive. You are "curious to know more about" me? Really? Why? You "don't give a darn what magicians think." Are my points more or less valid if I work 20 shows a year versus if I work 200? "I still think this bag is over priced. Maybe it's because I would never use it or because it's not suited for what I do. However, it may be suited for you or other performers and if you think it's worth it and useful, that's great." Fair enough. Your initial and subsequent posts are weighed down with pejorative. I don't disagree that props will not make a magician, but it is also a principle that appearances matter to people. No one was claiming that this bag was the solution to poor magic. It would have been more helpful to provide an alternative to justify the price you suggested), which I will do here (so there is SOME value to this conversation to someone): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00N6T3OLY/ref......WP&psc=1 I did a search before I purchased the bag and I could not find anything quite the same. I searched here and found this thread which had helpful comments by some, then the useless, unhelpful price complaints by you. I am satisfied with my purchase, and also to provide some useful input, this product happens to fit perfectly into the bag (although is starts to become bulky in a clumsy way): http://theambitiouscard.com/aitem.cfm?itemid=64 John |

I'm not having a dig at this, but I don't understand how it differs from a fanny pack, he is just wearing it differently? I'm interested in it, but what are the advantages?

N00b post here. I looked at the bag, it’s very nice, given the quality of the materials and the quality of the workmanship, it is fully worth what is being charged for it. Would I like one? Yes. I would also like to drive a Maserati to work every day, but it’s not practical! Neither is this bag, for ME!

Again, if I wanted a sling bag, I would get a sling bag. Not one that costs over a hundred dollars though. I hope the 30 people who pick this up find it useful.

Just want to chime in here as someone who purchased this when it first came out. Like everything that John Born has produced and offered, IMO, it is well thought out, well made, and a quality product. Let's please stop the harping about price - if it's beyond your means, then don't buy it. I've purchase several purses for my wife that cost well over $1,000 each (which may be one reason she tolerates my magic habit...). This bag is as well made as any of them. Thanks, John, for continuing to share your ideas and products with the magic community.
Now appearing nightly in my basement.

I think the price could be considered reasonable depending on where this is made. There is no contact information on the product page to inquire.

Born's Bag is quality!
Initially, I wasn't sure exactly what I was looking for in a bag. Most fanny packs don't work for me (some for style, some for function). I'm also a "coin guy," so I don't need much space, and usually work from the pockets, so backpacks are typically overkill. Being a fan of John's work, this bag originally piqued my interest, but as I said I wasn't sure what I ultimately wanted. I'm also 6'4" and thought it might look small on me (it doesn't). Trusting John's opinion, I took the plunge. As soon as I pulled it from the canvas bag it came in, I immediately felt the quality. The leather selection is nice, the stitching is perfect and tight all around, and all of the hardware works smoothly (*including the magnetic closure pocket which had its own surprise for me). The inside is deceptively spacious. The profile of the bag is pretty slim, but there are several organizational pockets within, and room for all kinds storage; whether it's personal or magic crap. 10/10 would recommend. Will make a great walk around gig bag, or the perfect convention/day bag. If you're the type that's going to refer to it as a murse, then this bag probably isn't for you. * - For those that don't know, I found this pretty surprising and is an additional point that's not mentioned on John's site. If you've seen Pattrick Przysiecki's awesome folding pads, one of his models was actually made for this bag! Who knew?! Pattrick's aptly titled 'Born's Book Mat' is perfectly fitted to slide into the magnetic closure pocket of the bag. On a whim, I wanted to see if his pads would even fold small enough to fit in the bag. Turns out he makes one specifically for this bag! Serendipitous. Got one of those too! You can cram tons of gear into the bag, it's snazzy, and you can easily bring along a fitted, folding, close-up pad. What more could you ask for? Additionally, as if you needed another reason, John offers any of his printed books with the purchase of his bag (except for Meant To Be). Talk about bang for your buck! Happy new year everyone, and thanks for all the good words! Have been using this a lot in my work, and have been super happy with how its use has evolved.
Am going to Magi-Fest in January. Have a few left, and happy to bring one for anyone interested. All the best, JB |
