Thanks! The group was originally a public group open to anyone and everyone. It also seemed to have been abandoned. So I took it over and made it a closed group and deleted unrelated posts. Now it seems to be very active again. Come see.

Yes I am denying access to anyone who doesn't prove somehow they are a magician when I browse their FB profile. After all, we are discussing secrets to of one of the best illusions around.

Not sure if my FB profile is up to snuff. Managing my own info seems to be the toughest thing to do there! But I am member of several other magic groups. And I've been performing Zig-Zag for nearly 30 years!

I was in the group but since I am not a professional magician I was deleted. When I was in there I saw pictures of Harbin's original illusion. I was doing some research and have a couple of historical questions.
1. Is it true that "Zig-Zag" was not name Harbin called his illusion but the third. 2. I saw in "The Genius Of Robert Harbin" by Eric Lewis that Harbin created an illusion called "Trisection" (Pages 273-278) and "The Walking Zig-Zag" (Pages 279-282}. Does anyone know if these illusions still exist or not? Thank you for your time. Ron |

Ron, The complete collection of Harbin Illusions was granted to Alan Shaxon in London England. When he passed away several years ago, it was passed onto another person, I think it was Paul Daniels, but not positive. Upon his passing, I have not read where or whom the collection was granted to.
As far as I know Alan wife is still alive. There was also a book published of his unfinished material. I only mentions this as this is how one obtains leads to find out their questions. That is the only way your questions could be answered, find the person who has the Harbin collection. If you are a true historian, why not do some digging and actually contacting those in the know. That is what a researcher and historian does. Not sneak around and act like something you are not. Keep it up and no one will trust you, and your questions will never be answered. Contact the Magic Circle in London, England for a start. Better yet, go to the U.K. and actually talk to magicians. That is what I did and I actually got to correspond with the late great Roy Johnson and his wife before they passed away. |

Bill,
I don't think Ron is sneaking around and/or trying to be something he is not. He's curious about something and he is researching. He is using this forum as a research tool, and as a means to further his education on the subject matter. And that is the point of forums like this. We're here to help each other and offer guidance; otherwise, why are we reading, commenting or posting? We elevate the art by being protective but not so exclusive as to dissuade. We elevate the art by offering guidance, suggestions and help. We elevate the art by shining a light, not slamming a door. Your comments did offer guidance - but you followed up with insult. |
