I bought an entire magic library from the family of a magician who had been active during the '30s and '40s.
While sorting through his stuff, I've come across piles and piles of photocopied material. (Usually lecture notes and booklets) There were even some books (one over 42 pages long) that he copied by hand (illustrations and all). What should I do with all these copies? Obviously it would be unethical / illegal to re-sell the copied materials, but what about keeping some for myself? Or should I just take it all to the local recycling center shred away? As an aside, one thing that I found interesting while sorting through these copies is that he occasionally had the person who published the booklet autograph it! (I know it's an actual autograph because these are not color copies, but the message and signature are in color.) That's pretty ballsy! It's one thing to make copies for everyone in your magic club, it's another to hand one of those copies to the original author and ask him to sign it! |

It's hardly like you've acquired a box with a dead body in it. If it was me, I would not have even mentioned it on a forum like this. Why invite headaches?? Keep it, read it, and enjoy it. If the authors autographed pirated copies of their own works, I kind of doubt they were too bothered by it.

If your talking about lecture notes etc.. from the 30's and 40's that is how the lecturer made them. They didn't have the fancy equipment of today. I would not throw them or shred them.

Ed Marlo was known to sell photocopies of his Marlo Magazine and sign them with a serial number, too, so not surprised.
