Can someone recommend a book (or books) for a six year old child? I'm not quite sure he is ready for Big Magic for Little Hands. Thanks!

My six-year-old loves The Magic Show by Anne Benkovitz and Mark Setteducati. Honestly, I love it too-- it's extremely clever. Basically the book does a magic show for you, through a mix of optical illusions, mathematical principals, and gaffes. It won't provide your child with tricks they can do independently of the book, but once they've been through it a few times, they can demonstrate the tricks in it for an audience. Unfortunately it's out of print and decent used copies of it can be outrageously expensive on Amazon but I just checked and there are some reasonable offers on ebay:

More recently, there's an excellent book called The Magic Show book. Some of the effects in it are a little advanced for my six-year-old but there are some fairly self-working effects built into the book as pop-ups, and he was able to master those: https://www.amazon.com/Magic-Show-Book-D......how+book |

My 6-year-old boy had been playing with the Magic Show book (Anne Benkovitz and Mark Setteducati one) for like 3 years, and still likes to show it whenever we have visitors. Too bad to learn that it is out of print, as my copy is quite worn out.
Will check out the other Magic Show book. Thanks a lot for the recommendation. |

My first magic book was in 1966 at the age of 7 years old was "Spooky Magic".
I still have it and believe it would make an excellent recommendation for a (6) Six year old. Here is one on ebay for $5! http://www.ebay.com/itm/1962-Spooky-Magi......al5YNDiI It is a good start. I am trying to teach my 4 year old grand daughter magic. At this point, anything complex is out of the question. But I am getting results teaching her how to handle cards and coins. I got her to hold (4) Four Large British Pennys between her thumb and fingers, one between each!

Here are two more recommendations by Karl Fulves, one of the best:
Both are part of the Dover magic publications and cost $5 each! https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Magic-Tricks......er+magic https://www.amazon.com/Easy-Tricks-Child......er+magic

Thanks to everyone who had suggested the above books. I have ordered the Magic Show Book (the new one) and the 2 Karl Fulves books. My kid and I are happy. Thanks a lot!
