I am shortening this up so as to not write out my entire Gospel magic routine word for word so you are free to expand on it/shorten to your specific audience setting. My guess is similar routines may already exist out there someplace, but I did not refer to or remember them when posting this patter idea below.
Needed: "Butterfinger, Kit Kat & M & M's" trick by Ickle Pickle (can be viewed on youtube) and "Brown E's" 50 piece by Gosh. Both products widely available at dealers and shops including from Penguin Magic, Stevens Magic Global or direct from the Ickle Pickle web site. Optional: "Taste and See That The Lord is Good" ceramic tile 7" x 7" WWW253106 and a wire plate stand holder for it; "Psalm 34:8 The Message" bookmarks for kids WWW129278; and "Awesome Classics" God's Kids Worship Band Simple Worship Series DVD that has on it "Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus" song. All of the above available from www.CBD.com Routine basics: First read slowly and expound on Psalm 34:8-9 (NIV). Show the ceremic tile. "Does this mean we should try to actually taste God? Try to use Him like a Tootsie Pop? Don't be ridiculous! These verses call us to rely on God- and we will see that He is good! When we "taste" a new candy we've never eaten before, we are checking first to see if we like it, to see if it is good, before we eat it all or spit it out. This verse is challenging us to Taste God's promises and we will experience that we are blessed when we take refuge in Him", etc.. I will place the tile basically as a small sign on the table where the candy cards are at. "I'd like to illustrate this further today using some pictures of candy (show them) and two volunteers." Have each child come up, give their names, and one reads from a large colorful poster card (I write the verse with a marker on a small poster sheet bought from Dollar Tree)Psalm 119:102-104 (NIV) and the other reads loudly as well from his/her card Psalm 19: 9-10 (NIV). "Aren't those great verses, does this mean the paper is literally sweet? Of course not. It means God's Word is SWEEEETTT (say it like a kid seeing a new bike)- what He has given us in His Word/The Bible and in His promises and His being with us daily in prayer and through His indwelling Holy Spirit in our hearts IS SWEETER than honey! I love honey on biscuits, don't you? Psalm 119 stays God's Word as we just heard read by _____ and ______ (kids names)is sweeter than honey!", etc.. Then do the basic Ickle Pickle Butterfinger trick as written, but explain that you are doing this trick to reinforce the idea that God's promises to us are sweet. And, "if all goes well, and the trick prediction works, the kids will all get a brownie at the end- a very special brownie that can be keep for days in your pocket and shared with your friends. Wow! Is that even possible, we'll see!" At the end of the trick, after the prediction works great , the "Brown E's" are explained and handed out to all the kids (they were in the same bag as the M & M s.) along with the bookmarks to take home which are also read out loud again (both sides: Psalm 34:8 from "The Message" paraphrase). Our particular kids Sunday School will then at that point discuss the words of and sing together the song "Tis So Sweet To Trust In Jesus" using the worship DVD track above (our Sunday School main meeting room has a large television and DVD player set up). As I will be doing this effect for the first time in March, let me know if you have any comments/suggestions/additions. Much appreciate your feed back |
