That sounds hilarious! Although now I am picturing what it would actually be like, to do that at movie theater for real haha. Before you take your seat, you just turn around to your friends and produce it. I can neither confirm nor deny that that sounds tempting LOL.
There will always be someone better at some things than you are. There will always be someone worse at some things than you are. All you can really do in the end, is aim to be better than you were yesterday.

There is a different method I developed when I was 15. Performing for an audience of senior dignitaries in my town I was prepared. One man coughed several times.
I happened to be starting a Linking Rings, but could have happened any time. I announced, "I think that gentleman needs a bit of wine." I placed the rings over my left arm and produced a stem glass of wine at my fingertips. My assistant (younger sister) came up with a tray on which I placed the glass. She took it down to the man who sipped it and toasted the crowd. This could have been a highball glass or Pilsner beer glass. No foulard, no risk of spill or fumbling with a cover -- magic, right? No -- just realize that the glass carried and produced does not have to be the same one handled to a spectator -- a Utility Switch. Many ways to accomplish this according to conditions. In my presentation the glass held stiff Jello rather than wine. Looks the same and even sloshes a bit, but no cover. This was in my left pocket with the base up. With the rings in my right hand a grabbed the based with the curled fingers of left hand and base against palm. When I turned to my right and held out my left arm the glass was behind my wrist/arm with finger point at the rings. I then placed the rings over my left arm and make a sweeping motion with my right hand. By rotating my left hand the galls 'appeared' on my open fist balanced by my thumb. My assistant had a duplicate glass by her left side as she approached with the tray, waving it to the crowd. As she walked past, not stopping, I 'handed her the glass'. Actually, she just raised her glass to meet my empty right hand as I flipped my glass back into hidden position. With the glass on the tray and carefully balanced as she descended the steps I was able to claim the rings in my right hand and replace the glass in my pocket. .... for your routine the real glass of whiskey could just by on a table behind some prop. Produce the fake one by any convenient method - even a plastic half-glass on a TT. Then, find an excuse to set it down and make the switch. Seated at a table I might have the real glass in lap with a cover removed just before the production. Then the fake is produced dramatically and handed to the spectator with right hand -- making a Utility Switch in the process and umping the fake. The point is -- producing a glass of liquid is difficult -- so, don't.

I have performed both the Osterlind version, and Barry Richardson's version. Both require a coat.... Osterlind's requires a cover to hold liquid in the glass. A cover is not necessary in Barry's. In Osterlind's you must remove the coat as you make the steal into the bag. In Richardon's the glass is produced as part of the act of removing the coat. Osterlind's is harder and more impressive. Richardson's is easier, but not quite as impressive. Neither require any holders or clips.

Thanks so much....You inspired me to look into other glasses and I have found a wonderful wine glass that I can now work with too!
I have a routine I do based on Faucett Ross' handling of the Challenge Bowl Production using two Big Shot glasses. It involves the premise of sneaking drinks into a movie theatre. I produce one from a foulard, and then have the "usher" search me and then produce the second one. -Scott This routine sound very interesting is it published anywhere? |

He usually does not publish his tricks that require props. Most of his magic sells in the high end, as he includes a fully worked out and ready for presentation routine. |

Just got an email from Stevens Magic Buma just released a triple glass production called, "Anytime, Anywhere" for $75. Looks workable. Limited supply so seek it out before they are all gone. They are not Shot Glasses in the traditional design.

I somehow got on a mailing list from Thom Peterson, he has some interesting props and routines. I have not ordered any of the effects as they are the kind of routines that you really have to desire to perform, as the investment seems high to me. Maybe if I could have seen him in person, I would feel differently.
Anyway, I thought I would reference his large glass of lemonade, bottle production, in case anyone is interested. I believe he is in the U.K. What his promo video for routine called, "Cheers" "Super Swinging Drink Production", and decide for yourself. http://www.amazingguystore.com/ |

Not sure where to post this, I'm looking for this, https://www.ebay.com/itm/FAKE-CHAMPAGNE-GLASS-Stage-Magic-Trick-Production-Beer-Food-Prop-Joke-Flute-/172405928150. Or something like this with liquid that moves.

I've recently come across this wonderful old item called 'Dr. Schram's Whisky Vanish' , which was put out by the Inazani-Henley Magic Co. (England) in the 1960's ( Inzani-Henley Magic Co. was the creation of magicians John Henley and Remo Inzani.) Supreme Magic also made a version they called 'Dr. Schram's Glass Vanish'. Supposedly Inazani-Henley's version was much superior to the Supreme version, although both apparently had the same basic working, based on the trick invented by Dr. Schram, a German magician (and presumably a physician or scientist).
A review of the effect mentions it could also be used as Production of a full shot glass of whisky (or other liquid) although I think the Vanish and Reproduction of the glass full of whisky is much stronger. It looks very clean. The liquid is poured into the shot glass in a very open and fair manner, the handkerchief looks unprepared and is handled very openly (it does not seem like it's a Devil'sHank or Go-Go Vanish Cloth type of thing (?) ... and of course that would not account for concealing and reproducing the FULL glass of liquid ...). After after the full shot glass is placed under the handkerchief both hands are seen empty. The ads emphasized no body loading. Notice in the screencapture this moment after the full shot glass has been placed under the handkerchief. It does not appear as if the shot glass is being concealed in either hand. Then, after the glass is reproduced the liquid is poured out again. Check out the demo video. (in the demo John Henley uses milk for greater visibility) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7baOCDcF-4 Ads from 1963 - Inazani-Henley's version - Supreme's version - Review from 'Abracadabra' magazine - The effect looks very clean and not at all old-fashioned. I think it would play very strong for contemporary audiences. Too bad it is no longer being made by anyone. I'm surprised not to have seen or heard of 'Dr. Schram's Whisky Vanish' before now. I've never seen one come up on eBay or a magic auction site. (maybe I just haven't been paying attention). Has anyone else here ever seen this or performed it ? |

Well, I must be losing my eyesight. When I responded to this topic I apparently glossed right over the original post that specified "NOT A SHOT GLASS". Sorry.
I still think that Dr. Schram's Whisky Vanish (or Production) that I posted about above looks good and I wish I could find out more about it. Will have to keep an eye out for it on eBay , etc. |
