"With all these card tricks, why bother encumbering yourself with tricked-up cards and decks that you may, at any moment, be caught without." - Edward Marlo, The Cardician.
I am looking to compile a list of books which are focused on impromptu Card Magic. Any help is appreciated. |

Not to rain on the parade, but your journey will be a long one. This is almost like saying, I want to list every scientific study that uses a test tube.
You will have out further filters, you are going to bury yourself in a list of books that will be next to impossible to read. Truth be told, nearly every book with a magic trick explained has some piece of impromptu card magic in it. Perhaps your search is better refined by asking for people's go to impromptu card effect, or gaffless card trick. As for books specifically focused on the subject, more or less anything published during Dai Vernon's lifetime will be a strong source of usually impromptu card magic. (1890's-1990's) Good luck, I hope you find what you are looking for. |

Also Harry Lorayne's material. His card stuff is virtually all done with borrowed packs and impromptu.
Shane is right: you have a LONG journey ahead; it will be fun! |

Dear Malvee to make the start of your journey somewhat easier, here are in addition to the suggestions already made, some titles with impromptu card magic.
Books: 32 Impromptu card tricks by Arthur P. Felsman Let's Get Small (10 impromptu packet tricks) by Cameron Francis Moment's Notice (10 issues) by Cameron Francis Ten New Impromptu Card Tricks by Charles T. Jordan Six Impromptu Card Tricks by Karl Fulves Encyclopedia of impromptu card forces by Lewis Jones Full Deck of Impromptu Card Tricks by Ted Annemann The Encyclopedia of Card Tricks by Jean Hugard and Card Tricks without Skill by Paul Clive both do have a chapter with impromptu card magic. I have to respectfully disagree with Mr. Cobalt here.
A good, concise working library of books on impromptu card magic can absolutely be compiled and studied effectively. Sure there are hundreds of books which contain impromptu magic to one degree or another, but the OP specifically mentioned books that have impromptu card magic as the main focus. I have many suggestions. I would recommend the complete works of Harry Lorayne. I recommend the complete works of Dai Vernon. I also recommend Steele, Sharpe, Scarne, Carlyle, Carney, Fechter, Fields, Marlo, Bannon, Giobbi. Also get yourself the bound volumes of the great periodicals. Make sure these are all physical copies. No e-books allowed. Study them. Master the ones you like through devout practice and rehearsal. Bring them to life by performing them for people in your own way. Every true magician should have a personal library of books. You are asking the right questions- enjoy the wonderful journey on which you are about to embark. Make some discoveries and show the world the magic that you choose. Not the magic others choose. |

6 replies and no mention of Paul Cummins' FASDIU?!

@SDR You are right not listing Paul Cummins's FASDIU was a severe omission. I missed it as the word "impromptu" isn't in the title.
@Magic Fish. Why wouldn't e-books be allowed? To the video's should be added: Roberto Giobbi - Simply Amazing. With the exception of the finale it is a complete act of impromptu card magic. |

Reading between the lines, I think you might benefit from checking out my friend John Carey's work. Most of his material is do-able by newcomers to card magic and just as importantly, simple and direct enough for you to present it well.
