Hello boys and girls of the magic community!
Almost 10 years have passed since I visited this forum and I am grad to be back! So like the title says: "2 magicians walk into a bar...", what do they do? I teamed up with a good friend, also a member of the Café, and we would like to do some effects/routines that involve 2 magicians, a duet if you will. We both focus on card magic and we are looking for something to do in a walk around situation or behind a bar, odes not necessarily have to be impromptu. First thing that came to mind was a card transpo from wizard 1 to wizard 2 and then back again, but I would like to ask the community if you guys have some suggestions for something involving 2 magicians. Thank you! lads |

I remember some sort of scam where a magician would borrow a $20 bill and have it signed. Then he’d make it disappear, and after a bit of by-play, ask the bartender to check in his cash register. That’s where the signed bill would be found!
The secret was that during the routine, magician #1 would surreptitiously pass the bill to his accomplice (magician #2), who would saunter up to the bar and order a drink, paying for it with the borrowed bill. The bartender would give him the drink plus change from the $20, and both magicians would profit from the scam. |

Hey Arthur! Thanks for the suggestion, having the second magician was a fairly obvious choise to us, we are looking for something that we can perform together, IE performing side by side.
In terms of the second guy being the silent partner I think that Slydini's papaer balls over the head would be a much nicer crowd pleaser and would have some comedy involved, magician #1 would do the trick and the second would be able to be seen as an accomplice when catching the papaer balls by the audience but not the "victim". Other things came to mind while we were brainsotrming this: Card to impossible location, card to sealed bottle etc. those are fairly obvious as well, but would like to incorporate maybe a multiple signed selection somehow. Also the bar scene is just an example, we would like to adapt this for walk around situations as well. For the most part we are looking for something to do without one of us being a plant or "the dirty work guy". Many thanks for the suggestion -Daniel. |

You could do a "second sight" act where the spectators whisper some info such as their birthday into one magician's ear and the other then names it while across the room.

As for card magic I think it would be hilarious if one magician heckled the other. Do a few tricks each so the audience knows you are both magicians and friends. But after a while one magician begins to heckle the other by saying things like: "No No he's trying to scam you...make sure you shuffle those cards etc etc" and yet somehow the trick works anyway. The success of the trick would somehow be at the expense of the heckling magician, for instance the card might ultimately be on his back or in his shoe.

You could also tell the audience that you want to set a record for most card tricks performed in three minutes. One spectator times it with their Iphone and you alternate doing very quick and flashy card tricks involving spectators and counting out loud as each trick is completed. As time runs out you just barely beat your record to the thunderous applause.

@MeetMagicMike - I like the plot that we could heckle eachother, there is an effect I do by Daniel Garcia called "Nacho mommas triumph", the patter I use involves 2 magicians in bar and we can change it up a bit so we can act the whole story out for the audience, the effect itself has 2 phases, after the first phase the "heckler" could take the deck from the "magician" and have a more impressive reaveal. This also goes well with our personalities and we could add some comedy to it.
When I read your 3rd post I was imagining a multiple selection 8-10 people, maybe more depending on the time we have available, and within the limit we would reveal all the cards except one that would go to an impossible location or something like that. I am not sure what you mean by "second sight" I am not familiar with that, but i'look into it, maybe I can do something with it in that regard. Thanks for the gread suggestions! You really got my neurons firing -Daniel. |

I might have the term wrong but I believe "second sight" is the term for a two person code act.
I like your idea to do a multiple selection routine back and forth using my idea of trying to set a record. A funny idea might be that one magician begins revealing cards that the other magician was supposed to find. This could be accomplished easily if magician #1 forces a few cards that are agreed upon. Could be really funny. |

I see, at first I found something else card related named "second sight" witch is also pretty cool
I will look into it maybe we can conjure a nice funny routine with it. Thanka |

@MeetMagicMike We sort of stumbled upon the same idea which I personally like a lot!:D By the way, behold as I reveal myself to be the mystery magician Daniel was talking about! End behold
What do you guys think of a 3-4 phase transpo routine with a signed selection? How could it be done? Let's throw some ideas around! -Matt

Don Oesterwind and Dan Jones of the Ann Arbor Magic Club performed this at the Magic of Giving show the club put on with the Rotary in Wayne Michigan about a week ago. Magician A and Magician B have different spectators (say at each end of the bar) pick a card. Magician A finds Magician B's spectator's card and B finds A's. They are far enough away that at first it looks like both magician's failed. Mostly plays for comedy. p.s. Two magicians walk into a bar... the third one ducked. |

Two magicians walk into a bar...One says, "Hey, that pretty woman is staring at you. The other says, "huh? Uh, let me show you my new double lift."
