Geno Munari is not one of the "high profile" figures in magic who has gained a lot of notoriety in our profession. He prefers to take a less conspicuous role in the magic community, but it's time to shine the light on this important individual. This week on The Magic Word Podcast, we visit Geno in his natural habitat, "Houdini's Magic Shop" at its headquarters in Las Vegas. More than just a magic shop, this is more like a "reverse mullet" hairstyle...business in back and party in front.
The front of the building is open to the public and houses the retail magic shop. In the back lies all the secrets and dozens of employees. They have several printing presses where they publish many books, not all necessarily related to the magical arts. He also has a manufacturing plant for some gaming equipment as well as their "in house" line of Houdini's Magic. And believe it or not, they even have a radio station that broadcasts to the downtown Las Vegas area as well as online. You can listen to KIYQ online at http://kiyq.org/ They play a lot of the old "standards" from the old time Las Vegas musical artists like Wayne Newton, Frank Sinatra, Mel Torme, Brenda Lee and many more. He also give gaming tips for playing the tables. In this podcast, Geno talks about his background, coming to Vegas, being in the gaming industry and how he founded Houdini's Magic Shop. Geno was a good friend of the late Jimmy Grippo and he tells several stories about this fabled entertainer. This is an interesting podcast with several old Las Vegas stories and ending with a discussion about an upcoming documentary about the John F. Kennedy assassination conspiracy/plot. Be sure to enter the contest for a chance to win one of two copies of "Nick Trost's Subtle Card Creations Volume 3", offered by the publisher, H&R Magic Books. If you visit the site after the contest is closed, then be sure to search for the most recent podcast where a contest may still be running.
