Well, I am back on Thayer Street (closest thing Providence has to a "village" personality and I hope I don't make a fool of myself.

In truth, I didn't shame the name of busking, but I didn't bring it any great honor either. I've discovered my audience is sitting in the pizza parlor I work in front of. I show them some quiet stuff and they come out and throw a couple of bucks in the bucket! Sometimes people stop on the sidewalk and watch that, then I start hitting on them.
One girl didn't like the rope routine. "I'm not amused." Was her specific comment. As I started a card trick she said; "Showme the best trick in the world." (I was reminded of the doorman in the film; "That Thing You Do," "GOOD jazz? You want to hear GOOD jazz?" So I put the deck Dow and showed her a trick with imaginary cards! One Invisable Deck and a Four of Clubs later, she was blown away and her father slipped me a five for shaking her out of her cynicism. Later I miscalled a card and almost mis-threaded a Shang hi Shackle and I realized I was getting tired and needed to go home. Still $25 for three hours fun wasn't bad.

Thanks. Being a "weekend warrior" has its drawbacks, but I still enjoy it.

I think this is a poor indicator and if used we can miss the real genius creative value of the art. Great to here your getting out there and doing it, Keep up the good work.
Enjoy your magic,

Well done. I had a spec that kept saying the same inappropriate line over and over after each phase. I took the easy road and stopped the show and hatted instead of continuing

I had to work this weekend. I have Monday and Tuesday off. I took Tuesday off because my kid is a parade nut and someone has to take him to Bristol. I'll be bringing my Magic Digest and some cards, but I don't intend to busk. You think Newport is strict, Bristol is major league proprietary about their real estate on Parade Day!

Oh, didn't mention I DO have next weekend off. I'm going to try Thayer Street again. I'd like to show pictures, but I don't have anyone to take them.

I'm not going to post every time I go out, but an interesting thing happened Sunday.
I wanted to go out Friday, after it cooled down, but it didn't. Upper 80s with 80% humidity means Ed sits at home and plays on the computer! Sunday it was in the 70s and I schelpped my stuff up to Thayer Street. (I envy you guys who can work out of a single bag!) I was at the bus stop wearing my "Got Magic?" t-shirt and carrying my junk when a father with his kid came up to wait for the same bus. He commented on the shirt and asked if I liked magic and had I seen the magician on AGT? I said I had and did a little sponge ball work for the kid. The father said, oh you DO magic. Apparently, he hadn't looked at the tool box with magic stickers all over it! Then I did what I call Scarne's Transposition (because I worked out a method after seeing John Scarne do a beer ad.) and the father dug into his pocket and gave me a dollar in four quarters! I've done Saturday and Sunday on Thayer Street now, I'd still like to try and do a Friday and see if there's any difference.
