Sacramento has always been sort of a boring government town. We now have a fairly exciting restaurant and art scene. The city is considering how to support street entertainment.

I used to perform busking-style at the Sacramento Rivercats games there for several years, and loved it.
I was able to busk for tips and was also paid by the team for all Sunday games. I was also able to hire a balloon twister and face painter for those games, as well. I wasn't doing it for the money, per se, just the experience and it was a game changer in terms of learning to be entertaining. Probably the best thing I ever decided to do, magic-wise. I liked the article. "blocking ped traffic" is a big issue and those buskers not able to see that are just being lazy and selfish. They would rather risk getting kicked out and having busking outlawed than moving somewhere less stupid and use their skills to draw a crowd over to them. The old sac boardwalks are not big enough for peds and shows. And nobody wants to be pressured to watch a show. Nor does anyone want to live and shop next to a dozen bucket drummers. Buskers can make things uncomfortable which reduces business traffic. That's why busking is outlawed. We can whine and complain all we want but some buskers make themselves the problem and ruin it for everyone.

A great Post,
here, by Frank. He nails a lots of important things. "..performing for experience." "..learning." "..some make a problem and ruin it..." I guess we can only keep saying it, talking about it. I have come to believe, this is part of the game(!), a well. Sacramento, enjoy the "good time". Try to remember, a little father down the road. gallagher |
