Hi @all, I am working on a Zodiac routine but I have a question.
The Zodiac dates are different in my book (Capricornian Tales by C. Chelman) and on wikipedia. For example, the book says: Aries March 22 - April 21 while wikipedia says, Aries March 21 – April 20 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zodiac#Table_of_dates Can anyone explain the discrepancy? Why difference in dates? Thanks! |

Here are the usual Western dates
Aries (March 21-April 19) Taurus (April 20-May 20) Gemini May 21-June 20) Cancer (June 21-July 22) Leo (July 23-August 22) Virgo (August 23-September 22) Libra (September 23-October 22) Scorpio (October 23-November 21) Sagittarius (November 22-December 21) Capricorn (December 22-January 19) Aquarius (January 20 to February 18) Pisces (February 19 to March 20) The dates have shifted a day or two in either direction depending on when and who did the computations. |

Tony's right--It is a very common discrepancy, Shakuni. That's why those born on the cusp are sometimes iffy on which sign they might be (and if you are doing a zodiac divination, you can't assume that a cusper is necessarily the sign you might think).

Someone posted this on the Café re: astrological signs and number 13 (see below). It's a quick read to put things in perspective. It's a moving target just go with it. Most people ready don't know or care. Chalk it up to performance options. It's a sliding window anyways. I was born on the cusp so depending on what horoscope I read, I'm either one or the other. It's all BS just pick the common one the western, and stick to it.

The traditional Western (Tropical) Zodiac starts with Aries and is determined by the date and time of the Spring Equinox in March. This changes by up to about a day from year to year. Different authorities choose different approximate dates as 'standard' which is why they can vary. To know someone's true astrological star sign if they are born near one of the cusps, you need to calculate their birth chart.

On the other side, the routine covers the detail of the dates.

I have a routine (yes, only one ) about zodiac signs, and to make sure the participant and I agree on the dates, well, I wrote a card and show it with a quick word on why there are discrepencies from one source to another. Unexpected bonus, if a participant tells me he or she disagrees with my table, I know he or she was born on a cusp

The actual date that the sun (or moon) goes into a particular zodiac sign changes every year. They mostly do go around the given dates but it can change from year to year.

Fun fact:
"the Earth wobbles like a top, very slowly, and over centuries that changes the dates the Sun is in a given constellation. If you were born in late March in ancient Greece, you would’ve been an Aries. Today, you’d be a Pisces."

Note: According to modern Western astrological practice, if you were born during the first solar month after the spring equinox, you are still considered an Aries, even though the Sun is actually in another sign. For more info: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sidereal_a......strology

Traditional astrology is a bit more fun. The location of the planets is the location of the planets. Signs are also a bit less important as they're primarily used as the domain of planets as a layer of dignity and derive much of their meaning from the planets themselves (treating the modern planets beyond Saturn more like fixed stars and not attributing rulership over any sign to them) you can see this in play in the descriptions of Aquarius, which traditionally was ruled by Saturn and later was assigned to Uranus.
I've been tempted to put together a routine based on William Lilly for a while, he used to have his maid hide things in various places in his house and discern their location using Horary astrology. |
