Hi all! I will be heading to Nashville in a couple weeks to visit family on Friday. I was wondering what the current situation is on busking in Nashville... seems I heard awhile back they were hassling street performers. I was thinking about going out on Broadway on Saturday, but not if it was possible. Anyone with current info?

Chatterbox41, Nashville, here's the deal. The police are totally cool and will not bother you, unless someone calls on you. If someone calls, the police will ask you to move to a different location.
I was performing on Broadway, between the candy store and Valentines bar. It is massively loud on broadway, however, I have a monster P.A. system and I was not only able to compete with all the noise. However, that is the exact reason Valentines called the police on me. So, I walked around the corner and started performing on 2nd in front of Mike's Ice Cream Shop. It was still loud, but no where near as loud as Broadway. The downside to 2nd is it does not get anywhere near as much foot traffic as Broadway, but you will not have to deal with anyone calling the police on you. At 7pm there is a guy who wears a fancy suit, plays a horn and sings Louie Armstrong songs in front of the Ice Cream Shop. He's a local and he will set up right next to you. He never gets a crowd. If you start pulling a few shows with a decent audience size, he will leave after about three or four shows. The hats are good and both locations I just gave you are pretty decent. If you go to my website - www.VillageIdiotMagic.com - and click on the photos page, you will see a photo on the bottom left with a female wearing blue shorts and a blue top, that was taken in the location I mentioned on 2nd. Directly above that is an ariel photo, with a yellow taxi van in the background, that is the location I told you about on Broadway. Good luck! |

A friend of mine was arrested in Macon and the next day was run off in Atlanta. A prominant full time busker advised me not to make Atlanta my first time busking gig... his exact words were "it would be like taking your first piano lesson on a piano where only half the keys worked." He advised me of a few places within a few hours drive that would be more suitable for a newbie, which I have been following up on. The only reason I asked about Nashville is I will be there for a wedding on Friday and have most of Saturday free... new experiences, right? Gary |

I wouldn't suggest Nashville for your first time busking either. If you don't know what you're doing, you will not have an audience. There are more distractions in Nashville than most other places I've ever been. And if you do get an audience, you absolutely MUST grab them by the throat and not let go until your final hat line.
I absolutely killed it busking in Atlanta. Also, my friend Rondini does really well out there too. I do a comedy magic act and Rondini does a comedy straight jacket escape. ANyway, for a first time busking, I would suggest a place like a farmers market or just outside of a small festival or carnival. Good Luck, Mike |

Sorry to here about Atlanta. Never been there but I've heard it can be rough.
At least you're guaranteed some fun in Nashville with the wedding and the busking's a bonus. Hope the weather and authorities cooperate. Best of luck. |

Last time I was out there was probably 2012 and I set up during the Piedmont Park Arts Festival. Basically just found a spot I thought was good and went to work made monster hats at that place. I went downtown and pulled 3 shows on a Saturday that were pretty big for the area, probably 50 - 60 people each audience. not huge but good enough to make better than average hats for the size of the audiences. I was only there for a few days, on my way to florida.

Piedmont Park is where a friend was thrown out during a festival... apparently the major festival guy in the area doesn't like buskers, but will definitely check it out. I have some ideas of some places downtown too. Thank you for all your help! Gary |
