There is living and there is being kept alive. As soon as I stop living I don't care about the latter.
Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain.

Why put your brain into a body at all? Why not a machine that perhaps looks like a body? The new Blade Runner movie certainly hints at it! Lynn

What makes you think that was a machine and not a body?

Actually that new Blade Runner movie suggests many options, including an electronic hologram image that can "feel" as well as think and have all senses, "people" who are "born" as adults, robots having children... all kinds of yucky stuff. In 2049, I'll be over 100 years old and I don't think I wanna go there. On the other hand, I might indeed end up there! Have fun and pass the popcorn. Lynn

Still missing a demonstration that "self" can be moved and transplanted.

On Colbert's late show, he poked fun at a real (not imaginary) company which sells "sex robots" at $15,000. Double YUCK! And it's not just a movie! Lynn

"Sex Robots" while becoming more and more popular will be exponentially MORE popular once the AI is added that makes them realistically simulate a caring companion.

It's already big business. There is a brothel I read about where the requests for the dolls is starting to outpace requests for the real escorts.
Like all paradigm changers robots, eventually androids, can be either great for humanity, or disastrous. The moral implications, and consequences, are staggering.
If you need fear to enforce your beliefs, then your beliefs are worthless.

Sky Masterson: "I am not putting the knock on dolls. It's just that they are something to have around only when they come in handy... like cough drops."
If there is a single truth about Magic, it is that nothing on earth so efficiently evades it.

Also all of my close friends have passed away and gone to the great cribbage game in the sky. Well,at least the Internet is a godsend since I can at least play cribbage online. Only half as fun as cribbage in-person but I can live with it. Grateful for the Internet. Also in the last legislative session locally, I joined in my support of the local group pushing for the legalization of physician-assisted suicide. I seriously believe that should be an option for those terminally ill whose pain is so intractable that they wish for self-deliverance. At least the option should be made available. |

How are we defining life/death here?
There aren't many (if any) situations where it seems reasnoble for me to actively wish the permanent annihilation of my consciousness (if death is being defined that way). Of course, whether I get any choice in the matter is a different story, lol |
