One of the worst full performances I have ever seen , I really thought the effect as well as the performance was terrible . Best wishes Tarik 🙂

I thought it looked quite good except for the part where the fly flies out...as it is considerably smaller than the fly used to find the card.

Performance and method aside, I rather like the concept of it. But I would never perform it.
First, it's kind of gross to me, and second, I don't wish to become a fly wrangler. It makes me wonder how many magician wives are going to flip out over this, and not in a good way. I predict many lines will be drawn. How much will refill flies cost? |

The out will be “you don’t like that trick? Well the fly did because they’re attracted to s@@@!” 😂😂😂

Yeah I just didn't like the whole concept of the effect . Flies are dirty bugs that gravitate towards s.h.t and I cannot see the attraction of this sort of effect and I thought the performance was also a bug bearer for me . Just cannot see this one taking off , best wishes Tarik 🙂

I actually love the concept. It’s edgy and different. I’m honestly so sick of variations of the same thing trotted out weekly for sale that anything remotely unique is refreshing. But not sure the reality of the effect looks promising. I’ll have to wait for reviews, as it seems somewhat impractical and looks a bit obvious.

We could supply refill live flies from here in Australia quite easily
Only problem is that in the middle of summer it could be too confusing as to which fly we should be looking at... |

Hey, the flies are cute and they are easier to train than a mouse. Don't release them at the end; just drown them to save for later. When you are ready for the next performance start with the Frankenstein fly trick and revive the fly by covering it in salt. "No flies were harmed in the performance of this trick" you say. I plan to release this as a download soon including instructions to make it easy to catch your own flies and make the tiny collar you need to train them. They are pretty grateful after you revive them and mostly happy to be helpful so they are easily trained. I hope I didn't reveal too much here.

Also, it behaves so differently no one is going to believe it's the same fly (or am I over thinking it!). Would love Craig Petty to review this. Where would you do it... and the way you open the box is so so suspicious. Why wouldn't the fly fly off rather than walking along the cards? Just so many questions come to mind. Also reset ... do you need to carry around lots of flies? The box is HUGE also (I know the subtitles say small box but you're not really fooling anyone. I will go watch the review just for "fun". |

World Magic Shop review, 1st item on the show.
I have a couple fly tricks I purchased in the 1970's, one from Paul Diamond, and one from Ken Brooke. This would fit nicely in with these other effects. |

I'm reviving this thread to say a few things.
First of all, I got this because I think the routine can be very fun/comedic for spectators with the correct script. Have some byplay with this "pet fly" and then have it find the chosen card. I wouldn't do the ending of making it a real fly or the alternative they suggest which is to find the fly "escaped" and has vanished from the box. Instead, I would simply end with the card trick. Here's the general idea of the routine I would use. I'd borrow a coin, make it levitate, and hand it back. As they are chatting and looking the coin over I would bring out the matchbox and act as if I'm trying to secretly put something away (very suspiciously.) I would see them catching me in the act and say, "Nothing! Oh did you say something? No? I was just... um needing a match?... for something I was pla--Okay, okay, you caught me!" (to the matchbox:) "They caught us, Terri! The gig's up!" (back to audience:) "Fine! Yes... I have trained a fly to help me make it look like a coin is floating. I put the coin on his back, he makes it go up and down a few times, and then he gets to eat. If he fails to make it look good, or he gets seen, then he doesn't get to eat. It turns out, food is a great incentive." Obviously this sounds absurd and they know you are joking. "Well since you caught me, do you wanna see the card trick Terri does? Usually I don't let him perform this in public; I don't let him have the limelight often because I usually try to use him in more covert ways... but I guess I'll let him perform it for you--only if you swear you won't tell the other tables that I use a trained fly to help me in my tricks! The heath department would have a fit if they found out! You swear you won't tell? Okay then, pick a card." Have the card selected and returned to the deck. "Terri just needs to know what you had for lunch." (They tell you. You then tell Terri.) "Tuna salad, Terri." "Okay! I will release Terri onto the cards. He will begin to search for the taste of tuna salad residue which you left on the card you held momentary. Once he smells the tuna salad, he will do a little pirouette signifying which one is the chosen card. Okay Terri... do your thing!" You release the fly onto the card, it moves along the spread and then turns around on one card. "He thinks it's this one! Back in the box you go, Terri. You did great, buddy. I'll feed you in a minute." The fly goes back in the box. "See how he did. Did he get it? He did!? He's SO good-- definitely the most hard working fly I've ever owned." That's the general idea. I think people would absolutely eat this routine up. It provides a "logical" reason for the fly. It is also perfectly fine if they know it's a fake fly because of the idiotic things you are suggesting it can do; they know you're joking. From reading the thread it seems most people's problems were with the fly coming out at the end. Simply don't do that part, and you no longer have a problem. As for the trick itself, I think the matchbox is of poor quality. It looks very fake and wouldn't hold up well over many performances. The reason you need it is because it's gimmicked to hold out the fake fly at the end. Luckily, with my routine, I don't need to hold it out; so I will be using a normal matchbox which will hold up longer and seem less like a magic prop. In fact, it may even be fun to incorporate the haunted matchbox routine first instead of the coin levitation. Bring out this mystic box, talk about it's strange properties, it moves around on your hand, it flips over, etc. At the end, the drawer opens and you quickly close it and say, "No, no! Stay in there! Dang it, Terri! Urg... you ruined it. Now they all know how it works!" (Talking to the matchbox.) Go one to "explain" that you've trained a fly to move the box in certain ways in respond to certain vocal commands. Then go into the card trick as discussed above. I'm sad to see the product get knocked so badly on here, but I get it. It looks fake, the box looks fake, and the fly at the end is a real problem. But with a little creativity, you can have a routine people will talk about for years to come. Madison |
